Irvine, United States Stantec Full time

Many of the world's top engineers and scientists come together in our Water business because they view a community's interaction with water a bit differently-as a single holistic system, rather than unconnected networks divided by jurisdictional boundaries. Working throughout the hydrologic cycle, we are delivering sustainable solutions to make sure water is where it should be and available when needed. Our experts guide our work with scientific rigor, an innovative spirit, and a vision for growth. By 2025 we're hiring 2,000 people (like you) to join our team. Grow with us, H2O+U.
Your Opportunity
Stantec Water is seeking a Senior Associate Civil Engineer to join our thriving practice in California which, over the past 50 years, has delivered many of the most significant water resources projects including large conveyance, groundwater augmentation, water banking, agriculture irrigation, and municipal conveyance projects in the region. In this consulting engineering role, you will use your technical expertise working with multi-discipline teams that partner with clients to tackle a complex array of planning, design and construction projects. You will need to be self-directed, capable of leading and supervising diverse teams, and eager to mentor staff. You should demonstrate an enthusiasm for the water industry and Stantec's goal of continuing to be an industry leader. You will participate in all aspects of the project lifecycle - getting to know our clients and their needs, partnering with business development personnel to develop technical proposals, delivering successful projects, and maintaining contact with clients after projects are complete. Although this position will be focused on winning and delivering work in the state of California, there will be opportunities to work throughout North America.
Your Key Responsibilities
Project Technical Leadership: Lead the technical execution of water projects, with an emphasis on regional conveyance facilities, groundwater banking projects, pumping systems, and local water distribution systems. Promote teamwork and collaboration among disciplines and subconsultants. Uphold best practices in design and implement effective quality management processes.

Technical Support for Project Pursuit and Delivery: Share your technical expertise to:

  • Evaluate, plan and pursue potential opportunities with both our technical resources and marketing professionals in the development of future projects through the proposal process.
  • Execute projects and support our technical experts and engineering staff to produce meaningful and cost-effective solutions for our partnering clients.
  • Collaborate with others to solve technical and strategic problems, develop internal standards and best practices, and provide quality review for projects.
Mentoring: Mentor young professionals who desire guidance on career development objectives and develop collaborative peer mentoring relationships. This mentoring can take any number of forms, including one-on-one guidance, involvement in Stantec initiatives and interest groups, and participation in industry associations.

Technical Support for Regional Business Development Activities:Help position Stantec in the water market and identify strategic project opportunities through face-to-face client interactions. Work with our regional marketing with efforts to identify strategic projects, develop long-term market initiatives and identify environmental conditions that may either benefit or hinder the goals of our clientele. Provide technical support for the pursuit and capture of projects by identifying key issues, developing technical solutions, developing proposal content, and participating in interview preparation and delivery.
  • Corporate Branding: Participate in state, regional and national professional associations including Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), California-Nevada Section of AWWA, and Water Reuse Association. Attend and present at conferences, workshops, and training events. Become involved in committees.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Continuously advance your technical experience
  • Interact with clients, local and remote Stantec staff, permitting agencies and other consulting firms in the execution of engineering projects.
  • Gather information, develop, and evaluate alternatives, and prepare engineering reports.
  • Perform engineering analyses, modeling, and calculations and prepare detailed design drawings and specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience with design of water infrastructure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities for working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Strong project management and/or design management skills

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Valid California Professional Engineering license.
