Base pay range $82,326.00/yr - $104,230.00/yr Title Research Scientist 2 Description Under the direction of a higher-level scientist, the Research Scientist 2 will devote his/her time to biosafety level 2 and 3 laboratories activities and develop molecular and protein-based assays and whole-genome sequencing assays for high-risk fungal pathogens. The Research Scientist 2 will also validate molecular and protein-based tests and perform additional duties as required. The incumbent will also perform routine testing of the laboratory, including QC/QA. Qualifications Non-Competitive: Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences, AND three years of professional post-degree research experience* in the appropriate field. Substitutions: a master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and a doctorate in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience. Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have work experience or coursework in clinical laboratory sciences, microbiology, public health or infectious diseases. In addition, the candidate would have experience in handling of infectious clinical samples and/or human pathogens at biosafety level-2 containment. Experience with molecular techniques including DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, assemblies of targeted and whole-genome sequences, phylogenetic analyses, and data interpretations is particularly relevant. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must.
