Subject Matter Expert (Advanced Air Combat Simulation Modeling and Scenario Development) – Journeyman AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Subject Matter Expert to support advanced air combat simulation modeling and scenario development. Salary range: $95,000.00 – $155,000.00. Position is on‑site only; remote work is not eligible. Location: Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. Position Background The J‑NEEO team focuses on emerging capabilities around microelectronics and the integration of advanced technologies into intelligence and C2 systems. The SME supports the development, validation, and integration of high‑fidelity tactical models into the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center at Nellis. Typical Day Build, configure, and test NGTS parametric constructive modeling and simulation (M&S) models of platforms such as fighter aircraft, bombers, AEW, naval ships, submarines, SAMs, and ground vehicles. Use NGTS graphical user interfaces (GUIs), configuration tools and development guides/SOPs. Collaborate with other SMEs and utilize intelligence databases to model red and blue force systems accurately. Translate complex intelligence data into realistic, behavior‑driven models within NGTS. Conduct mission system modeling for radars, sensors (EO/IR, RWR, IRST), weapons, and countermeasures. Support verification and validation (V&V) efforts by developing test plans and executing simulations. Document test methodology, procedures, and results. Troubleshoot and analyze anomalies in simulation performance. Identify root causes and collaborate with software developers/engineers to resolve technical issues. Contribute to the design, documentation, and implementation of future simulation capabilities. Work closely with configuration managers and simulator engineers to manage changes and ensure system consistency. Must‑haves HS Diploma or equivalent with 7 years of experience with military platforms and systems. 7 years of relevant work experience. Recent (within the last 7 years) experience working in the US Air Force, US Navy, US Army Intelligence community, or as a combat crewmember/pilot with focus on blue and red air, surface, land, and sea platforms, sensors, and weapon systems. Experience operating, supporting, evaluating, or developing tactical mission and weapon systems. Experience with tactical applications including Electronic Order of Battle (EOB), EO‑IR sensors, jammers, IRST, RWR, datalinks, radars, weapons systems, missile guidance, etc. Mission‑focused mindset with attentiveness to customer feedback. Strong attention to detail while learning NGTS modeling and simulation software. Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail. Willingness to take on increasing roles and responsibilities as part of a high‑performance team. Ability to manage complex, integrated systems in a dynamic, mission‑critical environment. Ability to write, review, and maintain technical documentation, processes, and procedures for simulator engineers and technicians. Ability to produce data logs, reports, and deficiency reports (DRs). Experience analyzing simulation output to identify root causes and propose solutions. Willingness to work in a collaborative team environment. Must maintain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance; Top Secret clearance required to start. Desired Skills Experience with NGTS Battle Monitor, Parametric Data Editor, Player Editor, and Behavior Editor. Experience with Next Generation Threat System (NGTS), Joint Simulation Environment (JSE), Improved Target Acquisition System (ITAS), Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM), or other DoD modeling/simulation tools. Experience with flight simulation operation. Qualifications as an advanced USAF or USN Weapons School Instructor or Tactics Instructor. Experience in planning, analyzing, and executing military CONOPS and TTPs. Experience in Validation and Verification testing and documentation. Experience in Discrepancy Review Boards (DRBs) and Configuration Control Boards (CCBs). Experience with configuration management and collaboration with other configuration teams. Knowledge of GRID services. Experience with other JSE components. Experience in systems engineering, test planning, or simulation design for defense systems. Experience with Agile and/or DevSecOps development environments. Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).  Experience with simulator network architectures. Experience in software design, testing, and implementation for DoD flight simulators. Experience in instruction of military platforms, tactics, and sensors. Experience supporting Special Access Programs (SAP).
