POSITION SUMMARY Staff pharmacists fill orders for oral, parenteral, and enteral medications, monitor patient drug therapies, and provide drug information while complying with the laws governing the practice of pharmacy. Staff pharmacists supervise and direct support personnel. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Interprets medication orders and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately, maintaining accurate, complete patient medication profiles. Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including sterile, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products accurately. Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law. Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose. Reviews and interprets culture and susceptibility data for antibiotic appropriateness and recommends changes. Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and timely. Maintains current pharmacy licensure. Attends orientation, education, and training programs and reviews relevant literature. Completes all competency/skill assessment requirements. Maintains patient and department confidentiality. Documents all clinical activities and interventions accurately. Participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities of the department. Collects data, conducts quality monitors and inspections, and maintains logs and records as assigned. Provides drug information and education to patients and families. Participates in development and presentation of orientation, education, and training programs to pharmacy, medical, nursing, and other staff. Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel, verifies daily activities of technicians, participates in performance appraisals. Works independently with minimal supervision, organizing and prioritizing work assignments. Ensures pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner. May administer vaccines to Health First associates and patients if certified. Answers telephone, identifies self and department, directs calls and handles window requests. Keeps pharmacy areas and equipment clean, neat, and well organized. Attends staff meetings and reads pertinent email communication. Performs other duties as assigned. STEWARDSHIP Sustains the formulary by minimizing non‑formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic protocols and promoting rational drug therapy selection. Provides clinical clarification to practitioners and suggests appropriate, cost‑effective therapeutic alternatives. WORK EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with BS Pharmacy degree; Pharm‑D preferred. Current Florida license. 6 or more months of hospital experience preferred. Physical demands: repetitive use of hands and fingers, good dexterity, good eyesight, hearing, ability to work in noisy, distracting atmosphere, handle large volumes, walk, bend, stoop, twist, sit, stand for long periods, lift light loads up to 40 lbs. Mental demands: ability to work independently, patience, positive attitude, teamwork, problem‑solving skills, analytical skills, accuracy, organization, good oral and written communication, stress tolerance, listening skills, multitasking, quick accurate decisions, evaluate medical literature.
