MACON, United States Atrium Health Full time

Overview

As a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NNICU) Level III nurse, you provide specialized care to critically ill newborns requiring intensive medical attention. Working in a highly specialized healthcare environment, your role involves assessing and monitoring the health status of premature or critically ill infants, administering medications, and providing respiratory support as needed. You collaborate closely with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each infant's unique needs. Your responsibilities also include supporting families through education, emotional support, and involvement in their infant's care journey. By delivering compassionate, evidence-based care and advocating for the best possible outcomes for newborns and their families, you play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of the most vulnerable members of the community.

During orientation, nurses are required to complete Core Classes which introduce neonatal nursing. New nursing staff are automatically enrolled in a 2 year continuing education program entitled NICU 101, where they continue to build their knowledge base in the world of neonatology A unit specific Stork squad checklist is completed within 6 months from date of hire to verify participation in the resuscitation of infants. Six hours of continuing education must be completed yearly and all nurses are encouraged to seek professional certification once eligible.

Our NNICU is one of six regional referral centers for the perinatal in the state and the only Level III NNICU in central Georgia.
