The Clinical Extender will work under the direction of the Practitioner and support their documentation of patient information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Duties are to be performed in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations governing the legal scope of medical practice. They will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of patients and for providing a positive, supportive environment for patients and other staff while working in conjunction with physicians, advanced practitioners, front office and clinical staff.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
  • Perform clinical intake of patients to include taking and recording vital signs, allergies, patient medical/surgical history and medications.
  • Take a thorough history, including but not limited to: chief compliant, pain score, mechanism of injury and review of systems.
  • Perform provider documentation of patient information, following all guidelines for documentation and billing following SLPG guidelines.
  • Demonstrates skill in documenting and maintaining patient care records in a complete,   thorough, and timely manner.
  •  Enter provider orders in EMR per physician instruction accurately.
  •  Clarifies and corrects any documentation under the direction of the provider.
  •  Completes all documentation real time and within the same date of service
  •  Communicate to provider when chart is complete and ready for review and sign off.
  •   Assists with in-office injections per SLPG Academy protocol.
  •  May apply, instruct, and dispense DME per physician orders.
  •  Participates in pre-authorization measures for medications as needed.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.  Continually uses fingers for patient care, and data entry into EMR.  Routinely uses upper extremities. Occasionally lift items up to 25 pounds.  Occasionally push cart with supplies up to 30 pounds. Occasionally push wheelchair with patient weighing up to 325 pounds. Stoop, bend and reach above shoulder level regularly. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation and taking blood pressure readings. General vision, near vision, peripheral are all required.

EDUCATION:

Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant - preferred

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Previous work experience in Cardiology or a specialty working directly in the treatment of patients.

CMA/RMA Certification

BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification

Basic computer skills
