All Candle-lite maintenance positions have a steadfast number one priority to maintain product quality, production equipment, and production standards and to keep production downtime to a minimum. Trouble shoots and repairs all automated equipment.Performs equipment failure analysis, repairs and preventative maintenance. Learns and maintains proficiency on applicable software formats.Provides assistance to engineering personnel as needed. Writes and updates manuals and programs for automated equipment. May interact with outside vendors regarding new equipment installations and equipment upgrades.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Troubleshoot and Repair

  • Electrical Systemsvarious configurations (includes 24-110 volt control circuits) includes 3-phase circuits
  • Electronic Systemsvarious configurations
  • Programmable Logic ControllersSiemens and Allen-Bradley
  • Relay control cabinets (design, build and repair)
  • Notify supervision of need for additional program changes or electrical/electronic parts that are required to complete said work.
Programming
  • Write new and modify existing programming relating to PLC's
  • Modify or change other programming in other electronic devices
  • Layout sequence ability from start to finish for programming in regards to machine operation
Attend meetings as required. Develop written Documentation of Procedures for use by others, including Preventative Maintenance Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and Training Documentation. Work alone or in conjunction with Teams. Participation on the PEO (Plant Emergency Organization) team and other committees as needed.

Provides guidance and recommendations for preventative maintenance needs, performs preventative maintenance operations and gives guidance to maintenance mechanics in accordance to operating conditions.

Helps the maintenance supervisor maintain stock supplies and notifies supervisor of irregularities in operating conditions of equipment, defective materials, incorrect operating procedures, incorrect or low stock inventories, machine work requirements and any other condition not aforementioned that would affect the maintenance of the facility and its equipment.

A good working knowledge of conduit construction and sizing/pulling wire in conduit is also necessary.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

Eighty (80) hours to become oriented to operational setting.(19) to (30) months on-the-job-training to reach a level of proficiency required for adequate performance of assigned tasks. Ability to read blueprints and/or schematics. High school education or equivalent required. Associates Degree in electronics or PLC programming or equivalent is preferred

Electrical/Electronic aptitude test will need to be taken with a satisfactory score being achieved prior to entering the position.

The ability to read, write and perform applied mathematics is a necessity. The following Work Keys tests must be successfully completed, by obtaining the required performance level prior to entering the position:
  • Reading for information
  • Locating information
  • Applied Mathematics
In addition, a mechanical aptitude test, electrical aptitude and blueprint reading test will also be administered. A passing score must be obtained prior to entering this position.

Required to participate in Candle-lite basic Maintenance training program. Must either:
  1. Pass the Pre-test for each course offered or
  2. Take the course and achieve a passing score on the final examination
Required to participate in Candle-lite advanced Maintenance training program for Electronics Technicians. Must either:
  1. Pass a pre-test (where applicable) for each course offered
  2. Take the course and achieve a passing score in the final examination ( where applicable)

Must have the ability to:
  • To read and understand blueprints and schematics
  • Basic understanding of ladder and relay logic
  • Working knowledge of DOS and Windows applications
  • Ability to design and build control circuits
  • AC/DC circuit analysis; electrical and electronic circuits
  • Working knowledge of multimeter and logic probe
  • Experience with several type of electronic sensors
  • Good working knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Good mechanical aptitude, some mechanical maintenance required as part of the position.

Physical Activity & Demands:
  • Standing and/or walking 90%; sitting 10%.
  • It will be expected for the individual to be able to climb over/under equipment and machinery to gain access for maintenance. It will also be necessary to be able to climb access stairs and ladders to the top of Prill Towers, storage tanks, plant roof, and elevated maintenance platforms to perform maintenance and inspections.
  • Some heavy lifting will be required in accordance with power tools, equipment and machinery parts.
  • Some working conditions will be in confined and cramped areas.
  • Frequent visual activity is required for reading gauges, monitoring/test equipment, blueprints, electrical schematics, charts, etc.
  • Must be able to stand on a concrete floor for the entire shift; to lift 30 pounds without assistance and 75 pounds with assistance; have precise coordinated movements of the fingers, hands, and writs; have the ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist; be able to reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs; have the ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.

Work Environment

Works inside in normal, inside factory work environment, variable heating, cooling, drafts, operating machinery/equipment noises and material handling equipment. Works outside in all weather conditions; extremes of heat and cold, all forms of precipitation.Exposed to variable intensities of heat from equipment/melted waxes and odors from candle scents. Sump-pump working conditions are in confined sub-basement areas. Required at times to work from a ladder or in confined spaces.
