Start the next chapter of your career with Crane Aerospace & ElectronicsJob SummaryThe Software Engineering Manager manages aerospace engineering activities, implements and maintains engineering objectives and initiatives. This role is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of software systems used in the Aerospace industry. The Software Engineering Manager combines technical expertise in software engineering with leadership and project management skills to ensure that software projects meet technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and project timelines. This role will perform a variety of tasks, and lead and direct the work of others; a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.Essential FunctionsProvide leadership and management for Aerospace product development and sustaining programs and activities in an aerospace industryEvaluate and develop improved techniques for the control of design activities, ensure compliance with Aerospace industry standards, including DO-178C, DO-330, DO-331 for software systems and model-based developmentPlan, allocate and manage the deployment of resources for multiple aerospace projectsEstablish and monitor department budgetsEncourage and provide opportunity for continued relevant technical trainingEstablish and maintain design guidelines and design processes, continuously review and optimize workflows.Provide interface and direct/indirect support to outside suppliers, 3rd party development activities, and customer product integrationDevelop, enhance and maintain a core Software engineering team locally and offshore, as well as an external network of consultants, contractors and suppliers to support product developmentAny other tasks as assigned by supervisor or managementMinimum QualificationsExperience: 7+ years’ related experience. 2 years’ supervisory experience in an aerospace industry; Demonstrated experience with relevant aerospace standards and practices; Demonstrated strong customer orientationDeep understanding of embedded systems: Proficiency in programming languages like C and C++. Knowledge of communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, CAN).Experience with Aerospace standards and audits: Expertise in planning, test/validation, analyzing and managing software requirements and configuration in accordance with RTCA DO-178, DO-330, DO-331, DO-297.Experience with Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA): including System Architecture Design: Proficiency in designing and developing modular avionics architectures.Software Integration: Expertise in integrating multiple software applications on shared hardware platforms.Communication Protocols: In-depth knowledge of avionics communication protocols (e.g., ARINC 653, ARINC 429, AFDX).Safety and Certification: Understanding of safety-critical software development and certification processes, including RTCA DO-297.Performance Optimization: Skills in optimizing system performance, including timing analysis and resource allocation.Testing and Validation: Proficiency in developing and executing test plans, including HIL and SIL testing methodologies.Troubleshooting and Debugging: Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving issues in IMA systems.Planning: Ability to develop and execute detailed project plans.Education/Certification: BS in CS, EE, Aerospace or related fieldKnowledge: Familiar with a variety of the field's (aerospace) concepts, practices, and proceduresSkills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability to leverage critical thinking and sound judgment to plan and achieve goals, drawing on extensive experience and a deep understanding of complex systems, project dynamics, and business needs; Demonstrated ADVANCED skills in all of the following responsibilities: employee development, team building, business acumen, continuous improvement, systems and tools, project management and communication (written and verbal)Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications.
