Location BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital Title Emergency Dept Unit Clerk Parttime Nights 7p-7a Responsibilities The ED Unit Clerks serve as department facilitators, aiding in all processes outside of direct patient care to ensure patient care can happen correctly and efficiently. Work closely with the ED Charge Nurse and the ED Flow Coordinator to help manage the department and patient flow. Handle all clerical duties within the department, including answering a 13‑line phone system, encounter scanning, copying, and faxing. Assist physicians by paging and contacting other physicians, obtaining medical records, and arranging transportation to radiology departments. Monitor the 13‑bed Patient Safety Surveillance system and arrange all EMS transportation out of the Emergency Department. Operate an advanced telephone system, scanning, faxing, copying, and Microsoft Office programs at an intermediate level. Facilitate patient EMS transfers out of the ED, including transfers to nursing facilities, home, KNI for imaging, and KPEP for qualifying patients. Assist with patient admission processes, ordering priority blood and initiating massive transfusion protocols, and running the transfusion process. Obtain medical records from outside hospitals and upload them into patient charts. Manage incoming phone lines and maintain communication with CT, MRI, X‑Ray, and Ultrasound departments for radiology transfers. Create a daily physician call schedule for consulting and emergent services and maintain on‑call schedules. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. 1‑3 months related experience and/or training preferred. Previous healthcare experience preferred. Successful completion of the hospital's orientation, core orientation, and unit specific orientation. Competency in English, writing, spelling, and reading comprehension. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Maintain unsupervised access to the unit medication room(s) for stocking and/or retrieving supplies. Proficient in computer use and all Microsoft Office programs at an intermediate level. Advanced internet skills. General technical clerical skills: scanning, faxing, copying, operating an advanced telephone system. Advanced customer service skills. Effective communication with patients, visitors, and all members of the care delivery team.
