Company: Calcarea (www.calcarea.com)Location: Los Angeles/Long Beach, CAAbout CalcareaCalcarea is at the forefront of decarbonizing the global economy, starting with the shipping industry. Our mission is to safely and permanently sequester point sources of CO2 in the ocean through leveraging the Accelerated Weathering of Limestone (AWL). We have developed an innovative system to apply AWL technology directly on ships to decarbonize today’s existing vessels via retrofits as well as supporting newbuilds. We also seek to develop a new category of vessel specifically focused on converting CO2 into salty water at scale. (Check out this piece that highlights our tech from CNN: https://www.cnn.com/travel/calcarea-trap-co2-cargo-ships-spc)The shipping industry faces significant regulatory pressure to decarbonize, with the EU’s Emission Trading System (ETS) now including shipping and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) expected to implement a global carbon levy. This creates a mandatory market for effective decarbonization solutions. Calcarea’s technology is designed to meet this demand, offering a cost-effective alternative to carbon levies. After two years of de-risking our technology and making progress on securing regulatory pathways, we are now advancing our pilot programs to bring our system to the commercial market. The RoleCalcarea is seeking a Head of Maritime Technology Integration to serve as the principal technical authority and project lead for our maritime product. Success in this position demands an open-minded approach to changing goals, spontaneity in sharing and receiving feedback with colleagues and the C-Suite, and the ability to rapidly understand and execute on strategic directives.A key measure of success in this role will be achieving product design approval from a major classification society through the management of complex technical documentation and leading direct engagement.Responsibilities and Key ProjectsThe Head of Maritime Technology Integration will be responsible for the following:Lead the comprehensive engineering and design of the onboard seawater intake and discharge systems.Oversee the development of the onboard systems for loading, storage, and handling of limestone.Determine optimal power integration strategies for our system, adaptable for both retrofits and newbuild ship designs.Collaborate with marine engineering partners to develop conceptual designs for retrofit and newbuild vessels integrating our technology and steer them towards an Approval in Principle (AiP).Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of the Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system, from hardware and software development to manufacturing.Support the development and manage, in collaboration with patent experts, a defensible intellectual property portfolio based on novel vessel integration techniques.Lead the technical documentation and engagement process to achieve Approval in Principle (AiP) from major classification societies.Act as a key engineering contributor to a pilot program on a bulk carrier, responsible for testing, data collection, and demonstrating the commercial readiness of our Ripple 3 system.Drive the engineering design and execution for a project around the next-generation system, contributing directly to its implementation on a newbuild vessel in partnership with a group of ship owners.QualificationsDegree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field and preferably a PE (or equivalent).Proven experience in a technical project lead role within the maritime industry.Demonstrated success in leading complex engineering projects from concept to completion.Experience with the approvals process of major classification societies (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register).Strong understanding of ship design, including hull penetrations, ballast systems, and power systems.Experience with technical projects involving CFD modeling and other relevant engineering software.Knowledge of international maritime regulations, including those from the IMO and EU.Innovative mindset with a track record of developing and documenting new technologies or processes.BenefitsCompetitive salary and benefits package.Opportunity to work on challenging and meaningful projects.Be part of a passionate and supportive team.To ApplyPlease submit your resume and cover letter to jobs@ness-sea.com.We actively welcome applicants from underrepresented groups in our industry—including women, recognized minorities, veterans, and individuals with disabilities—and encourage you to bring your unique experiences and talents to our crew. #J-18808-Ljbffr
