Temporary Faculty Pool Department of AnthropologyCollege of Natural and Behavioral Sciences Position Description Michigan State University (CSUDH) seeks highly qualified, motivated, and well organized applicants for a pool of part‑time teaching appointments. The Position The temporary faculty pool remains open throughout the year and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates should be able to begin teaching on short notice. Fall term: late August to mid‑December; Spring term: mid‑January to mid‑May; Summer sessions may be available. Responsibilities Teach assigned upper‑division courses in the department’s curriculum and provide weekly office hours based on the assigned teaching load. Qualifications Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Anthropology or related discipline and prior college‑level teaching experience and relevant industry experience. Evidence of strong teaching effectiveness. Experience teaching and working with colleagues from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Anthropology or related discipline and prior college‑level teaching experience for upper‑division 300‑ or 400‑level courses. Employment Requirement Satisfactory completion of a background check (including criminal records) is required. Conditional offers may be rescinded if the check reveals disqualifying information or if misinformation is discovered. All employment is governed by CSU policies regarding state residency and employment. Salary and Benefit Information Initial rank and salary for lecturers are based on professional experience and education. Most new lecturers are hired at Lecturer A or B rank. Salary ranges (July 2024) Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 The CSU system provides a competitive total compensation and benefits package for employees and qualifying dependents, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, and tuition assistance.
