If you are interested in multiple locations please only apply once, your preference will be discussed during the screening process.As a Transportation Design Engineer, you will lead the evaluation, selection, and design of various transportation system solutions for different communities. You will be involved in generating conceptual designs and construction documents, collaborating with staff at all levels conducting field work, coordinating closely with members of complete streets engineering and planning teams, engaging in discussions with clients and communities, and on-the-job training.Your main focus will be to offer innovative and well-thought-out design solutions that align with client objectives and adhere to the latest best practices established by NACTO and similar organizations. Additionally, you will be responsible for project management, overseeing tasks, and assigning technical staff as necessary to deliver projects to clients.We partner with public, private, and institutional clients while embracing and striving to embody the diversity of our market area. For public sector clients, we lead PS&E, corridor studies, master plans, conceptual designs, environmental documents, and everything in between. By joining Fehr & Peers, you can expect to grow your career with support at every stage while maintaining flexibility and work‑life balance.ResponsibilitiesLeading and managing engineering and planning projectsPerforming field work, such as site review preceding design, and support during constructionPreparing conceptual designs that are accurate, feasible, and visually engagingPreparing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for transportation engineering projects, including complete streets, bikeways, traffic signal, signing/striping, and lighting projectsManaging direct client interaction and communication with members of the public through community engagementMarketing and bringing in new projects by nurturing client relationships and preparing proposals and interviewsMentoring and training your colleagues and receiving mentorship from senior staffQualifications7+ years of experience in transportation engineeringA bachelor’s or master’s degree in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, or a related major (e.g., geography, math, statistics, economics)Currently hold or plan to hold an Oregon professional engineer’s (PE) licenseExperience applying MUTCD, and AASHTO design standards on a variety of projectsFamiliarity with preparing and reviewing signing, striping, and traffic signal plansSafety countermeasure selection and designFamiliarity with mobility issues and how they affect transportation engineeringExperience leading proposals and nurturing client relationshipsInterest and experience with mentoring and training staffAdditional Desired QualificationsRoad Safety Professional (RSP) certificationPassion for listening to and engaging with diverse communitiesQuick‑build project design and implementationActive transportation planning and designRoad safety planning and designExperience with Oregon engineering standards and clients$110,000 - $150,000 a yearPlacement within the stated pay range will be determined based upon education, experience, and qualifications.Benefit Highlights:Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability Insurance.401(k) Plan with matching and profit sharing.Flexible Spending Accounts.Commuter Benefits.Paid Vacation, holidays and sick leave.8 weeks of Paid Parental Leave.Mentoring and Career Development programs.Research and Development group participation, and more.Full information about the benefits we offer can be found by visiting our careers page.EEO:Fehr & Peers is an equal opportunity employer.
