Medical Assistant II (Non-Certified) - Office Based

Work Location: 10000 Lakewood Blvd., Downey, CA

Work Shift: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Medical Assistant II (Non-Certified) is responsible for assisting clinicians in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician. Position will be conducting primarily back office functions.

How will you make an impact:
  • Provides back-office support and may occasionally provide front office support.
  • Greets patients in a friendly, service-oriented manner in compliance with Carelon Health Care Center (CCC) or Medical Group Practice protocols and workflows.
  • Oversees patient check in by ensuring medical records/charts have been pulled, patient data is current, appropriate paperwork is in order, and charts are reviewed/prepared.
  • Interviews patients, measures vital signs and records reason for visit.
  • Explains procedures, performs treatments, and administers prescribed medication.
  • Oversees patient check out by scheduling follow up appointments, collecting co-payment if applicable, ensuring paperwork is complete.
  • Schedules and confirms patient's appointments.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Requires H.S. diploma or equivalent and minimum of 1 year of related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program or medical experience or healthcare clinical experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained from an accredited school of training or certificate from a national certifying agency within one year.
  • For Carelon Health business unit, satisfactory completion of a Tuberculosis test is a requirement for this position.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:
  • Minimum 1 year or more of experience in Cardiology highly preferred.
  • Experience with EKGs preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification desired.
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred.
  • Bilingual communications skill in English/Spanish highly preferred.

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below location(s), the pay* range for this specific position is $18.85/hr. to $28.27/hr.
