* Transcribes and transmits doctor's orders tp appropriate areas under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
* Answers telephone and call lights. Takes messages and communicates messages to proper person. Communication is effective, courteous and tactful.
* Performs clerical duties related to the admission, transfer and discharge of patients. Assist patients, visitors and physicians in the nursing unit.
* Compiles new charts, maintains current charts and enters patient information in the computer, and other necessary forms. Assist in orientation of new staff to duties of the unit. Requisitions supplies and equipment. Orders maintenance and repair services, enters task to appropriate dept. Keeps Unit Clerical supplies inventoried.
* Maintains established Departmental Policies and Procedures, Objectives, Quality Assurance, Safety, Environmental and Infection Control Standards.
* Maintains proper attitude, exhibits mature personality and respects patient confidentiality. Complies with LRMC performance standards of behavior.
* Assist nurses and medical staff in obtaining H & P's, lab & x-ray and other pertinent data requested.
* Completes EKG course and demonstrates competency in interpreting basic EKG strips. Prints strips on new patients placed on the cardiac monitors.
* Notifies MD or nurse of changes or abnormal findings.
* Assist nurses with application of monitoring devices, knowledge of location, appropriate use, trouble shooting, able to recognize vital signs out of normal parameters and report to nurse.
* Confers with Charge Nurse regarding scheduling of patient activities.
* Provides general nursing care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients; applying utilizing special equipment; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; ambulating the patient; pre-operative and post-operative care; and application of abdominal binders or anti- embolism stocking.
* Take and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure, and intake-output measurements when needed.
* Prepares patient for meals, serves and removes food trays, and assists with meals or/and feed patient when needed.
* Transports patients to and from various departments as requested. Assures patients are properly labeled with name and birth date.
* Assist in maintaining a safe environment by cleaning Utility Rooms, cleaning equipment and preparing for disinfection of sterilization.
* Reporting equipment that is out of order, enter task to appropriate department for repair. Appropriate handling of clean and dirty linen and store supplies on the unit.
* Explain patient care activities to the patient and family when applicable and performs activities at bedside. Cleans equipment after patient use or discharges and stores appropriately or return to Central Services

Working conditions:

* Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to the risk of blood and blood borne diseases, infectious/communicable diseases, chemicals, fumes/odors. Exposed to unpleasant elements. Functions effectively under stressful situations.
* Provides daily personal care to patients in the areas of nutrition, elimination, hygiene, mobility, and safety.
* Assists with or performs basic nursing procedures on the unit to which assigned, at the discretion of the Unit Director, Charge Nurse or Primary Nurse.
* Reports and records observations, noth in the form of shift reports and through charting in the patient's medical record under the supervision and verification of the patient's assigned RN.
* Assist the RN in admitting, transferring and discharging patients, in developing and revising care plans and patient/family education.

Assessment

* Recognize and respond appropriately to the following conditions:
* 1.Cardiac or respiratory arrest
* 2.Hemorrhage or other acute bleeding status
* 3.Chest pain with symptoms of cardiac emergency
* 4.Respiratory distress
* 5.Acute psychiatric emergency
* 6.Seizures

Intervention

* Assists nurse/physician in patient examination.
* Assists nurse/physician with medical/surgical therapies to include, but not limited to:
* 1.Suturing/wound debridement
* 2.Obtaining specimens according to policy/procedure
* 3.CPR
* 4.Insertion of urethral catheters
* 5.Performs EKG's if necessary
* 6.Obtains orthostatic vital signs
* Accurately reports patient/family requests, concerns or change in status to charge nurse.

Communication

* Communicates with patient/family, nurse and physician with accuracy and timeliness to ensure safe patient care.
* Recognizes and responds appropriately to psychological needs of patients or families as related to their response to the stress of illness or injury.
* Documentation/Order entry - Documents actions as appropriate utilizing Computerized documentation system.
* Proficient in monitor tech duties.
* Maintains ongoing surveillance of patient's cardiac rhythms and notifies Charge Nurse or nurse assigned to patient of any variations or abnormal findings.
* Documentation of rhythm strips at least every 12 hours and immediate notification to nurse of significant arrhythmia or change in patients rhythm.
* Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge.
* Assist with orienting new unit clerks and monitor techs to the role.
* Collaborates with Unit Director and/or Clinical leader to develop and teach EKG class for Monitor Techs.
