Job Description The Senior Program Assistant is a pivotal role responsible for supporting the Senior Program Manager in the delivery of EDMO programs. The main responsibility of this role is to act as a substitute for any role at site, stepping in as needed while the Senior Program Manager travels to other sites. This includes overseeing daily program operations, providing guidance and coaching to staff, and ensuring a positive experience for all participants. Responsibilities Site management – step in and oversee the site when the Senior Program Manager visits other sites, handle incidents and call the manager if needed. Program support – plan and execute daily activities such as snack time, outdoor play, homework help, SEL, and STEAM. Staff supervision – lead and mentor staff, manage the team when stepping into the Program Manager role. Student interaction – observe behavior, assess appropriateness, apply behavioral intervention techniques. Parent communication – serve as a point of contact for parents, address concerns, provide updates. Relationships – maintain positive relations with all site staff and assist the Senior Program Manager with collaboration. Administrative tasks – maintain attendance records, manage inventory, organize materials. Program implementation – collaborate with the Senior Program Manager to plan culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate activities aligned with EDMO values. Safety and cleanliness – ensure safety protocols and cleanliness standards are met. Meeting participation – attend and contribute to staff meetings, lead meetings as needed. Customer service – provide exceptional service by anticipating and addressing issues involving children, staff, or parents. Professional development – participate in all training, professional development, and in‑season meetings. Other duties – perform other duties as assigned, stepping into the Program Manager role as necessary. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Previous experience in after‑school programs or a similar educational setting; experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred. Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide staff. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to resolve issues timely. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to work collaboratively with the Senior Program Manager and other team members. Willingness and capability to step into the Program Manager role as needed. Experience working with kids, groups of students, and in a coaching or educator support role. Background or familiarity with SEL and STEAM learning methodology. Creative, patient, and positive attitude with a willingness to problem‑solve. High sense of responsibility, dependability, patience, flexibility, and adaptability. Self‑starter, motivated, and team player. Previous camp or afterschool experience preferred. Classroom teaching experience and/or credential is a huge plus. Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or relevant experience. 48 college units or the ability to pass the Instructional Assistant Exam administered by EDMO. CPR/First Aid certification required by the start date, including an in‑person CPR component (compensation available if not yet certified). Physical Abilities and Working Conditions Vision: ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods. Hearing: ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions. Speech: ability to be understood in face‑to‑face communications and over a phone. Upper body mobility: ability to use hands to grasp, manipulate small objects, lift objects up to 50 pounds, and restrict conflict when necessary. Environmental requirements: ability to work indoors and outdoors, manage interruptions, work cooperatively and independently. Mental requirements: ability to read, write, understand, and apply information at a moderately complex level; math skills at high school proficiency; judgment and quick information processing; learn quickly; handle stress. Compensation This is a non‑exempt position working 30 hrs per week. The hourly wage range is $26‑$28 hr depending on experience and location.
