Direct message the job poster from Knight's Companies Purpose The Area Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily production operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality output in alignment with company standards and customer expectations. This role provides direct leadership to plant personnel, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Area Operations Manager coordinates production activities, material flow, maintenance, and quality control to achieve operational goals while maintaining cost effectiveness and regulatory compliance. Success in this position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to balance production efficiency with employee development and customer satisfaction. Essential Functions Actively participates in safety programs, enforces safety rules, and prioritizes accident prevention measures. Supervises the workforce, including hiring, directing, counseling, and disciplining employees, when necessary, while evaluating and fostering the growth and development of direct reports. Oversee daily batching operations to ensure consistent performance and adherence to production standards. Collaborate with the Quality Control department to ensure product quality standards are met, including mix design development, proper material usage, scale calibrations and certifications are achieved. Oversees materials and inventory process, ensuring accurate forecasting and maintaining optimum levels at the plant level to meet production demands. Review plant material reports to coordinate material movement and restructure schedules to meet customer demands. Collaborates effectively to resolve customer concerns, assisting with incident investigations, developing solutions and ensuring their successful implementation. Manages the plant and fleet maintenance by overseeing repairs, record-keeping, and ensuring regular upkeep meets operational standards. Ensures that plant meets company standards for cleanliness and organization. Performs additional duties as needed. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in plant management, with at least 5 years of experience in the ready‑mixed concrete industry. Proven ability to lead teams effectively, manage performance and foster employee growth. DOT Batch Certification in states you will be operating. American Concrete Institute (ACI) Level One certification or ability to obtain within 6 mos. Demonstrated understanding of material management, inventory management and ensuring production schedules are met. Familiarity with analyzing operational reports and adjusting plans to optimize outcomes. Possess excellent oral and written communication abilities. Collaborative team player with ability to work effectively across markets and functions. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Willingness to travel within assigned market. Ability of working outside of normal business hours to manage situations typical within the business. Valid driver’s license in state of residence. Physical Demands Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting and climbing stairs. May involve bending, kneeling, or crouching to inspect equipment or facilities. Must occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds. Requires ability to operate tools, machinery or computer systems effectively. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors.
