ECU Health Medical Center, located in Greenville, NC is seeking pathologists to provide locums coverage. Applicants must be board certified in Anatomic Pathology and board eligible for Forensic Pathology.

Coverage Needed -  beginning January 2025 - during recruitment

Work Schedule:  On the days cases are performed, preparation begins at 0800, and facility ask that the last cases of the day are complete prior to 1600 to allow for cleaning and tidying.

Details:

Providers schedules are currently structured so that one doctor is performing cases, one doctor is scheduled for "back-up" (in the event the primary doctor is unexpectedly unavailable, can function as an admin day if not needed for cases), the other is scheduled for admin (to allow for report sign out, teaching, meetings, etc.).  

Opportunity Highlights: 

  • Hospital privileges at ECU Health Medical Center, a 974-bed level 1 trauma center
  • Regional Medical Examiner facility associated with an Academic Medical Center
  • Schedule Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
  • No Nights
  • Over 90% of autopsy cases are forensic, and remainder are hospital-associated.
  • The office performs around 60-80 hospital autopsies per year; however, locums providers will only be asked to perform forensic/medico-legal autopsies."
  • # of autopsies per day - Between 4 and 6 cases per day, but this also includes external exams; generally between 1 and 3 autopsies per day, depending on complexity
  • Medical Autopsy - The vast majority of cases will be forensic autopsy, and (3.) there is the possibility of having to return to testify; although remote options for testimony are becoming more commonplace
    • There are some medical/hospital autopsies; the service sees approximately 60 of those per year.
