The Northwell Transplant Institute is seeking a full‑time, Abdominal Transplant Surgeon who has a strong background in Pediatric Liver Transplantation to serve as Surgical Director for Pediatric Liver Transplantation. In addition to the Transplant Institute’s comprehensive adult transplant services for heart, lung, kidney and liver, the Transplant Institute currently offers the only pediatric heart transplant program on Long Island as well as an established pediatric kidney transplant program. The successful candidate will partner with an established Pediatric Transplant Hepatology team who provide comprehensive care for children with both transplant and non‑transplant liver diseases. This multidisciplinary team is based at Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center. Cohen Children’s Medical Center opened in 1983 as the New York metropolitan area’s only hospital designed exclusively for children. Today, it is the largest pediatric teaching hospital in the region, with over 750,000 visits annually and serving 1.8 million children in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. It is the tertiary pediatric medical center of the Northwell Health System and the only Level‑1 Pediatric Trauma Center on Long Island. Cohen Children’s Medical Center is among the top‑rated children’s hospitals in New York State and has received the highest ranking in New York for pediatric nephrology, urology, pulmonology and lung surgery, and are nationally ranked for superior care in a total of eight specialties, including Diabetes and Endocrinology, according to US News & World Report’s 2024‑2025 Best Children’s Hospitals. The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, liver disease & nutrition at Cohen Children’s treats a wide variety of pediatric gastrointestinal, liver and nutritional disorders and are fully equipped to perform the necessary diagnostic procedures to help make a definitive diagnosis of children’s medical issues and has been nationally recognized for superior gastroenterology/GI surgery by U.S. News & World Report. The Northwell Transplant Institute offers world class organ transplant care for adults with organ failure in need of a new heart, lung, kidney or liver, and children in need of a new heart or kidney. Ideal candidates will have: Completed ASTS approved fellowship training in Abdominal Transplant Surgery with preferred fellowship training in Pediatric Liver Transplantation Hepatobiliary Surgery. Candidates with significant focus in pediatric abdominal transplant surgery without advanced pediatric transplant/hepatobiliary surgery fellowship may be considered.
