SUMMARY

Public Works Crew Leader position, under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, Assistant Public Service Director and/or Public Service Director ,supervises assigned crew members to perform routine, emergency, and preventive maintenance assignments related to the repairing, inspecting, constructing, and maintaining storm sewers, catch basins, sidewalk repairs and replacements, and asphalt and concrete applications. These crews also maintain grounds, flowers and trees and collect trash and recycling from Village facilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

The following duties are normal for this position.

  • Supervises and participates in the installation, repair and preventative maintenance of various facilities within the Public Works division of the Public Service Department.
  • Issues, assigns, completes and closes out work orders.
  • Accurately relates daily assignment of work to crew(s) and reviews and discusses completed jobs with crews.
  • Coordinates work with other crews to maintain deadlines and safety practices.
  • Assists in training and ensures quality workmanship of the crew(s).
  • May perform heavy manual functions, if required.
  • May operate a backhoe, front end loader or large dump truck if required.
  • Determines and requisitions necessary equipment and materials for job assignments
  • Arranges for transportation of equipment, and personnel to and from work sites
  • Must be available for on call work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Florida Class B CDL (Commercial Driver License) with airbrakes and tanker endorsements.
  • Must obtain a Level I, IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) certification within 12 months of date of hire.
  • Employee may have an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of professional, verifiable experience in the specialized areas listed in the General Description, or one (1) year of supervisory experience in these areas for construction and maintenance.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, direct, supervise and train individual technicians as well as crews that may consist of both skilled and unskilled individuals.
  • Must possess the ability to get along well with the general public as well as their fellow employees.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed outdoors, and employee is subjected to varying and changing weather conditions. The employee may occasionally work around hazardous waste and malodorous conditions. HOLIDAYS:
We have 13 paid holidays per year. Police Holiday is paid or comp'd at ten (10) hours for holiday except birthday which is at 8 hours. Birthday is an additional paid holiday but must be requested approved by supervisor, and taken in the same week as the birthday occurs.

PERSONAL LEAVE TIME:
Accrues weekly from hire date at the rate depending on length of time in service. PLT may be used, paid, after six (6) months.
