Job Summary

As a Mechanical Engineer in the Truck Upfitting Center, you will lead the design and development of innovative electrical solutions, from prototypes to full-scale production. In addition to developing new products, you will also provide technical support for mature products, focusing on continuous improvements and efficient production processes. Your role will include managing work truck designs, Bills of Materials, troubleshooting, and verifying new installations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design integrity, oversee documentation, and contribute to pre-production builds and production transfers.


Working with a wide range of equipment—including Mobile Power Solutions®, lighting packages, graphics, and various truck bodies—you will be at the forefront of custom builds for the work truck industry, driving innovation and business growth alongside a team of industry experts.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead, providing direction and acting as a key liaison between departments, while preparing briefings and solving project-specific challenges.
  • Design and test electrical and electronic systems and products for custom truck applications.
  • Develop and maintain hydraulic systems, ensuring compliance with safety, reliability, and cost targets.
  • Read, create, and maintain engineering documents such as exploded part assemblies, basic wiring and electrical schematics, and fabrication/machined detail drawings.

Use the ECN (Engineering Change Notice) process to effectively and efficiently manage change aimed toward product improvement.

  • Formulate product design specifications and update as required.
  • Draft manufacturing and testing procedures, contributing to both the development and sustainment of products.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to meet design requirements, conducting design reviews and ensuring on-time, on-budget project delivery.
  • Provide technical support to Sales and Marketing for proposals and bid submissions.
  • Work productively in a fast-paced engineering environment closely connected to the manufacturing plant.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support electric controls and systems.
  • Effectively manage priorities, transitioning smoothly between hands-on R&D, troubleshooting, and office tasks.
  • Thrive both in collaborative group settings and in managing independent projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSME or BSMET) from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a job relevant to degreed field
  • Experience in design, troubleshooting, and analysis of pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic controls and systems.
  • Experience with rotary screw compressors.
  • Good aptitude with hydraulic and mechanical driven equipment.
  • Experience with automotive power train – work trucks, large equipment, and PTO proficiency is a plus.
  • 2D / 3D CAD drawing environment experience (Autodesk, SolidWorks, solid edge)
  • Must be able to juggle priorities effectively.
  • Experience with a document control system such as a Vault is a plus.
  • Experience with vehicle mounted equipment such as cranes

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of PID controllers.

Experience with vehicle speed control systems.

Additional experience in CAN communication.
