FLSA StatusNon-ExemptJob Role SummaryThe Plumber/Steamfitter performs preventative maintenance by inspection of the plumbing and steam heating systems and replacement of potentially defective parts.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesProactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence Checks for repairs and stoppages, breaks, leaks in waste lines, water lines, vent, steam and/or return lines to ensure proper operation and maintenancePerforms preventative maintenance by inspection of the plumbing and steam heating systems and replacement of potentially defective partsRepairs/installs plumbing fixtures, (i.e. wash basins, sinks, toilets, valves, faucets, pressure regulator valves, water heaters, hot and cold water piping, sewer piping, steam piping and insulation)Replaces and repairs worn or defective parts on kitchen equipment, (i.e. kettles, dishwashers, and garbage disposals)Removes/inspects sump pumps, replaces worn parts, repacks glands and corrects misalignmentInstalls/maintains all vacuum, oxygen, nitrogen, sterilizers, control, and nitrous oxide linesInstalls/maintains automatic fire protection sprinkler systemsMaintains age specific and job specific competencies as described according to department/area/and unit specific competenciesJob RequirementsHigh School diploma or equivalent (GED), plus completion of a 4 year approved plumbing and steamfitting apprenticeship program plus 2 years shop work certified plumber/steamfitterMinimum of 6 years of related work experience as a commercial or industrial plumber/steamfitter may be accepted in lieu of education/graining requirementsOn-the-job training provided as determined by the SupervisorKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of state and local plumbing codesAbility to follow verbal and written instructions effectivelyAbility to interpret and work from blueprintsKnowledge and proper use of different kinds of plumbing and steamfitting tools, (i.e. pipecutter, threading equipment, and various types of wrenches).Ability to work from ladders and scaffoldsAbility to solder, braze and weldAbility to communicate both verbally and in writingKnowledge/application of mathematicsAbility to use age appropriate communication skillsAge appropriate cognitive abilities, skills, techniques and communications are detailed in the department/area/unit job specific/age specific competenciesAccredited by The Joint Commission and named as one of Indiana's best employers by Forbes magazine for two consecutive years and the top hospital in the state for community benefit by the Lown Institute, Eskenazi Health's programs have received national recognition while also offering new health care opportunities to the local community.
