Job Summary
Job Title: Lead Teacher - Preschool
FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range: $27.91-$32.80/hour
**Position is being offered with housing at Village Court Apartments.**
NATURE OF WORK:
Under direct supervision, the Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating, and implementing the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operations, activities, and teachers of Mountain Munchkins Preschool.
Essential Functions
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate and implement preferred curriculum using materials provided in addition to developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
- Continue with the implementation of the Pyramid model focusing on social and emotional development.
- Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
- Help to make sure classroom is fully staffed daily, work with classroom team on time off requests, schedule conflicts, and any other staffing issues. Be the first point of contact for the preschool team when it comes to staffing changes/challenges and report all changes to the director.
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Work closely with IEP team for any students receiving services. Respond in a professional manner and be responsible for upholding all the requirements for Mountain Munchkins when it comes to IEP directives.
- Coordinates ordering of supplies and materials to conduct daily lessons with approval from director.
- Ensure a healthy classroom environment - including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
- Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene, and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records, forms, and files.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and share lesson plans that support curriculum; ensure they have access to appropriate material and share with parents.
- Hold monthly staff meetings with the preschool team to discuss curriculum, students, challenges, positives, etc.
- Oversee preschool team on their professional development, required trainings, and Colorado Shines levels.
- Stay abreast of new developments in early learning curricula; introduce curricula improvements.
- Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Assists Director in creating budget and seeks alternative ways to reduce spending.
- Extensive knowledge about the program; giving parents a tour of the facility and answering any question regarding the program.
- Provides direct childcare and positive interaction with all children; ensures safety, care, well-being, and promotion of developmental milestones for assigned children.
- Creates monthly activity schedule, including scheduling enrichment activities. Provides calendar to families.
- Maintain a positive and informative attitude with all parents.
- Collect daily childcare information from parents to ensure quality care.
- Develops age-appropriate activities, schedules, and menus.
- Always ensure a child-safe environment. Documents injuries and illnesses when needed.
- Work with the director on the enrollment and registration of children.
- Maintain all the student files with the required documents and have files updated as needed per state regulations.
- Monitor food and supplies.
- Follow all the center policies and state regulations. Promotes and observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites as necessary; may attend safety committee meetings, actively participates in and may conduct safety training.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team.
- Actively works to progress the Town's goal of zero waste and carbon neutrality by minimizing unnecessary consumption (of energy, water, paper, plastic, ink, etc.), seeking environmentally preferred products (e.g., reusable, recycled content, non-fossil fuel), and supporting environmental initiatives through participation, promotion, and accurate storytelling.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, clutter free facility.
- Daily assessment of facility safety
- Open and close the facility.
- Other duties as assigned. Able to work some nights and around holidays.
- Assures checkpoints are complete on all preschoolers using Teaching Strategies Gold
- Submit reports and assessment data to the State as outlined in CPP and SPED requirements.
- Conducts performance evaluations on preschool teachers (with director)
- Conducts parent teacher conferences twice a year.
- Conducts a minimum of four family nights annually.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED. Bachelor's degree in child development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or related field plus additional training in Management and Early Childhood Education preferred.
CDA or other Early Childhood Credential-Minimum level II EC credential in Colorado Shines
Licenses/Certification(s):
Current CPR/First Aid certification. Possession of a valid Colorado State Driver's License. Additional technical certifications may be required:
• Completion of Early Childhood Development Course (3 semester hours) every 5 years.
• Must complete Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect, Standard Precautions and FEMA within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:- Extensive knowledge and understanding of child development from birth to 6 years.
- Dynamic people, management, communication, and guest service skills.
- High physical and mental energy level.
- Quick reflexes and responses.
- Ability to focus on many children at one time.
- Attend trainings and college courses as needed.
- Ability to ski or help with Comets program.
- Ability to drive the 15-passenger van
Busy, sometimes chaotic environment. Work is performed primarily indoors with some work performed outdoors in varying types of weather. Must be able to work some nights and holidays.
Physical Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be exposed to chemicals in relation to cleaning facility.

The Town of Mountain Village provides the following benefits: medical, dental, vision, and life ($50,000) insurances, paid 100% for the employee and $60/dependent per month for health insurance. The health benefits are provided with additional (free) add on benefits. Employee assistance program, related services (counseling, financial, legal), and wellness reimbursement program, including obtaining a ski pass to Telluride Ski and Golf Resort are offered.
The Town of Mountain Village participates in Colorado PERA Choice, which allows you to choose the plan that is the best fit for your retirement goals. The Town of Mountain Village provides an employer match, up to 5%, toward a PERA 401(k). A PERA 457 voluntary retirement savings plan is also offered. Benefits include paid vacation (approximately 5 weeks) in the first year and 48 hours of sick pay.
