Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Fintech Join to apply for the Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Fintech role at Hopper. Hopper’s Hotel Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) team is responsible for integrating our proprietary fintech offerings with the largest travel companies in the world and our own direct‑to‑consumer services. The role spans both B2C and B2B2C, building scalable fintech solutions globally and translating engineering changes into customer and business value. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will design, implement, deploy, and operate the complex backend systems that power our integrations. You will ship code quickly in an agile environment, collaborate across product, data science, front‑end, and other engineering teams, and drive large initiatives that elevate Hopper across the travel industry. Day‑to‑day responsibilities Iterate on features in an agile manner using Scala (no prior experience required) and technologies such as GCP, OpenAPI, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and others. Decide how best to build core systems within our microservices architecture. Ship your first code in days, iterating on features continuously. Collaborate with a diverse group of people, giving and receiving feedback for growth. Execute on high‑impact opportunities, helping Hopper rise to the top of the travel industry. Ideal candidate qualifications Ability to bring leading industry techniques and technologies to the table. Strong understanding of distributed systems and how architectural decisions affect performance and maintainability. Experience excelling in cross‑functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Frontend Engineers, and other specialists. Passionate focus on quality, writing testable code that performs and scales. Ability to work with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty, ambiguity, and quickly evolving goals. Prior cloud experience. Experience with Scala and its libraries. Prior travel or eCommerce experience. Desire to contribute to front‑end as a full‑stack developer is a plus, especially with React web front‑ends.
