Accelerator Technologist IV - Machine Maintenance (Bargaining Unit) Job ID 6577 Location SLAC - Menlo Park, CA Full-Time Regular SLAC Job Postings Responsibilities The Accelerator Technologist IV - Machine Maintenance works under minimal supervision and performs advanced complexity high proficiency work. Must have required high level expertise in maintenance of complex CNC (Computer Numeric Control) and manual machining equipment such as mills, lathes, EDMs (Electrical Discharge Machine), etc. Work will require electrical and electronic proficiency to deal with facility 480 VAC and 208 VAC supply and troubleshooting of electronic systems in mills and other controls. Additional work may involve non-machining equipment such as vacuum bake‑out stations, plating shop power supplies and pumps, ultra‑high vacuum (UHV) equipment, pressure systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic piping systems. The candidate will assemble and repair delicate instruments, hardware, and components using precision measuring tools in a wide variety of shop and experimental environments. The Technologist IV will plan with input from Machine Maintenance Supervisor and Senior workers. They will conduct a block of work as a complete project, or as a portion of a larger and more diverse project, with strict adherence to site‑specific safety requirements as well as work planning and control (WPC) protocols for shop, field or experimental areas. May periodically assist and help train a lower‑skilled machinist or technician. The Technologist will work in radiation‑controlled areas. Will communicate and coordinate with line supervision as to effort status, progress, and completion timelines. They must be able to follow all SLAC safety rules and regulations and identify areas for improvement. Qualifications Must have completed NFPA 70E National Electrical Code training and have 5 years of electrical experience or have an equivalent combination of vocational school, on the job training and experience. Training in high voltage safety (lockout/tag out), respirator use, confined space, radiation safety and harness safety. Candidates must have the ability to troubleshoot electromechanical systems on a wide variety of tooling and equipment as well as the ability to read and interpret electrical, electronic, logic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic prints and data related to manual and CNC equipment and installations. Must have strong troubleshooting skills of Fanuc, electronics, and other industrial machine control systems. Use of hand tools and precision measuring devices required. Must have experience with Electrical Equipment Inspections for safety and electrical code compliance. Experienced at working independently and as part of a team. Possess ability to coordinate, plan, and organize tasks. Demonstrate excellent verbal/written communications skills. Proficiency with standard office applications including Microsoft office suites. Must possess a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record for driving vehicles around SLAC site. Desired Skills Experience with machine preventive maintenance programs. Demonstrated ability to accomplish basic to intermediate mechanical and vacuum technical field work independently and as part of a team. Ability to operate Helium leak detector to check parts for UHV applications. Background with the use of machining and cutting equipment for fabrication of supports and fixture parts. Use of cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, and lift‑gate trucks for equipment and material handling. Use of scissor lifts and other elevated surface equipment. Ability to author and follow procedures in Electrical Work Plans (EWP), Equipment LOTO Procedures (ELP) and lift plans as required. Ability to perform detailed electrical inspections for equipment compliance to safety and build standards. The expected pay range for this position is $60.28 (Step 1) - $72.84 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit.
