Overview A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions, and consistently going out of your way to connect readers with the right titles and products. You help unpack and shelve deliveries and tidy our displays. You work our registers in a quick and friendly manner, ensuring our customers receive a highly professional service. Location IL - Oak Brook - Oakbrook Center - 2361 Employment type Temporary Job responsibilities Maintain the attractive presentation of the store and ensure its efficient running. Unpack and shelve deliveries and tidy displays. Operate registers in a quick and friendly manner to provide professional service to customers. Assist customers by greeting them, answering questions, and connecting readers with the right titles and products. Behaviors and expectations Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts. Fill scheduling gaps when able; be flexible and responsive to the stores needs (open from early mornings to late evenings every day, including weekends and most holidays). Be positive and willing in approach to work; perform tasks with purpose and energy, and work reliably. Be supportive and considerate of colleagues; help others and show kindness. Operational competencies Using varied technology, including registers, computers, tablets, programs and other tools comfortably and efficiently. Developing strong merchandising skills to maintain book presentation and store cleanliness. Developing effective visual merchandising skills for gifting, toys and other product categories. Running a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably. Supporting the receiving and unpacking of deliveries and the subsequent shelving. Finding books and products using knowledge and available information tools. Supporting the caf team when needed. Understanding loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques; identifying theft and seeking support for issues in the store. Physical requirements All work requires physical activity including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting and a lot of walking. You may work in other stores if needed to support the wider cluster. Career progression As you gain experience, you should expect your bookselling knowledge and skills to develop. Build book knowledge across fiction, nonfiction and childrens books; use this knowledge to maintain sections and present books attractively. Make effective book recommendations to customers and support key sales objectives such as Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, and preorders. Build knowledge in Educational Toys and Games, Specialty Games, Hobby and Collectibles, music and movies, and Newsstand. Learn to maintain sections and backstock and help customers with shopping; support the success of key sales objectives and new releases. Compensation and benefits Notes: An hourly rate starting at $16.00.
