Medical Director – Miramont Behavioral Health Middleton, Wisconsin About the Job The Medical Director is responsible for leadership, quality assurance, oversight and overall medical management of the hospital within the boundaries of state and federal regulations and accreditation standards. Responsibilities include planning, organizing medical and clinical practices, medical staff supervision, providing direct patient care and assisting other departments with direct interactions with physicians or medical staff. Roles and Responsibilities Oversee and is responsible for the quality, efficiency, and management of delivering medical services within the facility. Provide onsite clinical services to patients at the facility within medical protocols defined by federal and state regulations, as well as by corporate, facility policy or procedures, treating or directing treatment of patients, utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications. Define protocols and assist in decision making pertaining to the medical care of patients that is consistent with current medical practice and facility policies and procedures. Provide oversight and supervision to other professional medical staff, and guidance to administrative or support staff, as designated; direct services and information in a timely manner, maintaining appropriate confidential documentation, compliance, and billing in accordance with the policies and procedures. Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients, including appropriate reaction and de‑escalation techniques. Oversee compliance regarding the appropriate medical management of patients, clinical programming, documentation, and ethical issues to ensure that all services are provided in a safe and effective manner. Serve as a liaison between the medical staff, other clinic staff, division or corporate staff, and organizational leadership. Monitor assigned staff for adherence to established medical and facility policies and procedures. Provide back‑up call coverage. Serve in a teaching capacity for the training and development of other staff. Evaluate and diagnose patients for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders, securing physical exam and history from the patient, reviewing medical records, making medical evaluations based on observations of symptoms and behavior patterns, assessment and records, requesting appropriate diagnostic testing, prescribing medications and treatments. Follow a model of care that supports health and wellness of patients. Assist in the management of behavioral or mental health problems of patients, maintaining current medical records in accordance with federal or state regulations, and facility policies and procedures. Participate in call rotation. Exercise prompt and appropriate judgment when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or potentially dangerous situations. Education / Experience / Skills Required Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD or DO) supplemented by completion of psychiatric residency training. One or more years’ post‑graduate practice experience preferred. Previous experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment preferred. Licenses / Designations / Certifications Current license to practice medicine in the state of operation. Board certification or certificate of admissibility for board certification in a behavioral health specialty. Current DEA credentials to prescribe controlled substances without restrictions and per regulation within the state in which the practitioner will be working. CPR and de‑escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility). First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements. Supervisory Requirements Previous supervisory experience preferred.
