Operational Excellence & Consulting Principal Join to apply for the Operational Excellence & Consulting Principal role at Citizens. Description As the Operational Excellence & Consulting Principal, you will work alongside cross‑functional teams to significantly improve business models and transform end‑to‑end business processes that start and end with the customer. During an engagement, you will lead activities that diagnose issues, design solutions, help the business implement the solutions, and support measuring the business outcomes. You will also act as a change agent to ensure solutions are implemented and expected business results are achieved. This individual must have strong leadership, problem‑solving and communication skills. Primary Responsibilities Successfully lead teams through all phases of Lean, Six Sigma, Reengineering or similar business transformation efforts across all aspects of an improvement initiative (e.g., people, process, technology and policy). Demonstrate the ability to develop, scope and oversee complex engagements that deliver meaningful results and realized business value. Leverage a variety of experiences, and successfully demonstrate a broad range of reengineering tools, methodologies, and frameworks. Influence others, using a variety of tactics; develop and maintain trusting relationships with businesses to foster alignment, open communication, and collaboration. Manage the change that an operational improvement engagement will have on the businesses and address any resistance or conflicts. Stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices within the operational excellence practice and across other companies and industries; provide ad‑hoc advice and expert consultation; facilitate workshops to educate and inform colleagues. Coach, mentor and develop colleagues within and outside the Operational Excellence Chapter. Create and model a learning culture and a continuous improvement mindset; create high performing teams; empower colleagues to turn ideas into business results. Help the Operational Excellence Chapter identify & prioritize operational improvement initiatives as they relate to improving the customer & colleague experience and increasing shareholder value. Qualifications, Education, Certifications And/or Other Professional Credentials Required Qualifications Education: A BS/BA is required (Engineering/Science/Operations Management preferred); a Master’s degree or equivalent experience is required in Operations or Process Reengineering. Experience: 5+ years of experience in operational improvement, financial services, banking and/or consulting, with a record of accomplishments in leading cross‑business, cross‑function initiatives that resulted in significant value‑add. Preferred Qualifications Process Transformation: Demonstrate breadth and depth of knowledge in operational improvement frameworks, methodologies, and toolkits; experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Hammer Process Reengineering, Change Management and Organizational Design. Strategic Thinking: Link strategy to execution and have experience in taking risks and learning from failures. Leadership: Self‑starter; challenge the status quo, take risks, envision the future, enable, empower, and motivate others. Problem Solving: Comfortable with ambiguity; understand complex problems; identify, analyze, synthesize, and resolve critical business issues; offer creative insights that result in practical solutions and significant benefits. Communication: Strong communicator and comfortable speaking with and presenting to senior leadership using a variety of tools, strategies, and media that foster transparency, collaboration, and trust. Change Management: Independently influence others using a variety of tactics; develop and maintain relationships; comfortable facing adversity and addressing conflict; empower others via standard program and project management tools. Facilitation: Expert in leading process improvement sessions that document current and future state processes and identify issues and pain points. Hours & Work Schedule Hours per week: 40 hours Work schedule: Hybrid model (4 days in office / 1 day remote) The salary range for this position is $140,000–$150,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
