Job Title: Journeyman Electrician Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Electrical Supervisor Pay Grade: Auxiliary Salary Schedule Pay Grade 6 Dept./School: Physical Plant Operations Initiated Date: September 19, 2003 Funding Source: 199 Local Funds Revised Date: February 2, 2017 District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement. Department Primary Purpose: Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install electrical systems, services and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems in district facilities. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Valid Journey Electrician License High School Graduate or GED Valid Texas Drivers License Experience: At least 3 to 5 years experience in electrical work. Basic knowledge of codes and regulations related to his trade. Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of terminology, construction methods and materials related to this trade Knowledge of local electrical codes Ability to operate hand and power tools and equipment related to his trade Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to diagnose and resolve problems Knowledge of safety rules and regulations Knowledge of reading plans and specifications Major Responsibilities and Duties: Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, follow electrical codes, manuals and blue prints. Install and repair switches, circuit breakers, panels etc. Install and connect wiring, cable and conduits. Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems and use testing instruments and equipment. Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility, and safety of components using testing instruments. Measure, cut, bend, assemble, and install electrical conduits using rulers, measuring devices and conduit bender. Receive and complete work orders. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects. Respond to emergency calls as needed. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Ensure that all equipment is in safe operating condition. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing etc. Report any safety conditions to supervisor or director of maintenance. Follow district policies on professional conduct. Follow written and verbal instructions from supervisors and department head. Perform other duties as assigned by department head or supervisor. WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written) Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to stand, walk, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, push/pull, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms and taste or smell (67% to 99% of the work day). Able to sit (0 to 33% of the work day). Occasionally (0 to 33% of the work day) lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs. Special vision requirements include: 20/20 (corrected), ability to identify and distinguish colors. Be able to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus, judge distances and spatial relationships and observe an area peripherally. Work environment; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, wet humid conditions, working near moving mechanicals parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation and work with some form of vibration (67 to 99% of the work day), work with explosives (0 to 33% of the work day). The typical noise level for the work environment is moderate noise. Hearing requirements include: ability to hear alarms on equipment, client calls and instructions from department staff. Repetitive motion actions include: use of foot control, both feet (7 hrs. of the work day), use hands, both hands (7 hrs. of the work day), grasping simple/light objects (7 hrs of the work day), grasping firm/heavy objects (7 hrs of the work day).
