Construction Materials Laboratory Technician

 

Home Innovation Research Labs seeks a well-organized self-starter to work in our materials and structures lab. Projects include product certification and conducting testing in accordance with construction codes and standards. This is a technical hands-on position that requires physical labor to set-up and perform tests on a variety of building products and components.


This is an entry-level position and an excellent opportunity for on-the-job training as well as career growth. The candidate must be capable of working independently in a multitasking environment. Work assignments are directed and varied but limited in scope and complexity.


Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of laboratory or construction experience.
  • High School Grad required, AA degree in math, science or technology preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand standard test methods
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, bend, or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work overtime when required
  • Familiarity with basic shop equipment and various hand tools
  • Forklift Operator certification preferred but not required


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct tests to evaluate existing and new building products
  • Utilize basic carpentry skills to construct a variety of assemblies for testing.
  • Prepare test samples and set up tests
  • Record data and provide observations detailing test results
  • Materials receiving and shipping, including operating a forklift, unloading trucks, inspecting incoming material, entering receivables into a log
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
