What You'll Do
The Registered Professional Nurse IV, Acute Care is accountable for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process. The RN assesses, plans, delivers, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care related to patient's needs. The RN contributes to the support of patients through interdisciplinary teamwork. RN IV is accountable to assure that the care provided is consistent with applicable standards, regulations, statutes and state, federal law. RN IV serves as a resource for other staff and clinicians as required.
The RN IV provides leadership to department staff, serving as a resource and mentor. The RN IV contributes to the body of professional nursing practice through participation in research, committee work, and professional organizations, internal and external.
- Provides nursing care and services to patients throughout the life span and in various settings consistent with educational preparation.
- Collects, analyzes and records relevant patient health data accurately, with no more than 3-5 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
- Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation.
- Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation.
- Develops a plan of care that describes interventions to attain expected outcomes, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation.
- Implements and records interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problem, with no more than 3-5 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation.
- Evaluates the patient’s progress toward attainment of identified goals, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation.
- Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by direct supervisory observation and random supervisory chart review.
- Directs and supervises patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel 100% of the time according to department guidelines, as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
- Demonstrates consideration of safety, effective utilization of equipment and materials, and cost in managing patient care, as measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback.
- Acts effectively as charge nurse, group leader or preceptor when assigned, as determined by co-worker or preceptee feedback and direct managerial observation.
- Writes a progress note that demonstrates an understanding of the patient’s status and progress toward achievement of goals (80-90%).
- Effectively precepts new staff members or students as determined by preceptee/student feedback and direct managerial observation.
- Ability to function in charge nurse or leadership capacity as determined by practice arena.
- Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient’s autonomy, dignity and rights.
- Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity, 100% of the time, as measured by no significant, substantiated patient or peer complaints received by the manager/supervisor.
- Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures, 100% of the time, as measured by random supervisory chart review.
- Acts on behalf of patients in an ethical manner 100% of the time, as measured by co-worker and patient feedback and managerial observation.
- Adheres to ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses.
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice.
- Provides proof of current licensure validation to supervisor. (To achieve excellence, one must do this in a proactive, timely manner prior to due date).
- Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy by providing documented evidence of completion to supervisor.
- Provides to supervisor evidence of completion of all required training and competency validation. (To achieve excellence, one must take personal responsibility for this task and complete by the due date).
- Participates in level appropriate number of hours of educational activity, according to pathway, related to job function annually and provides documented evidence of attendance or activity to supervisor.
- Demonstrates clinical problem-solving ability through written exemplar, patient/family feedback, co-worker report or direct managerial observation.
- Participates in quality improvement processes for the department and institution as assigned and as measured by supervisory observation.
- Provides two required annual in-services for coworkers and provides documented evidence of activity to manager.
- Demonstrates operational problem-solving ability through written exemplar, coworker report or direct managerial observation.
- Coordinates performance improvement initiative demonstrating good organizational skills and follow through as determined by direct managerial observation.
- Develops and evaluates systems for orienting new staff and students as demonstrated by direct managerial observation.
- Contributes to the body of nursing knowledge through use of research and participation in professional practice committees and organizations as measured by portfolio review and managerial observation.
- Participates in nursing research.
- Commits to an attitude of inquiry, research-based practice, and the advancement of nursing science as observed by managerial observation.
- Helps to identify clinical problems requiring investigation as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
- Assists in the collection of data within a structured format as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
- Partners with senior nurses to use research findings in clinical practice as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
- Identifies clinical problems requiring investigation as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
- Influences data collection methods, collects data and implements research findings as measured by direct supervisory observation.
- Serves as a clinical expert assisting investigators as measured by investigator feedback.
- Uses research findings in clinical practice as measured by coworker feedback and managerial observation.
- Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager.
What we need from you
- 4 year / Bachelor's degree in Nursing, preferred
- Experience may be substituted for degree
- Master's degree in Nursing, preferred
- All RN’s hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor’s prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN’s licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement.

- Minimum 5 years of Registered Nurse experience, 3 years must be in relevant practice area, required

- Minimum 2 years Registered Nurse experience in relevant practice area, if Education is BSN or MSN, required
- Current NYS license as a RN required for all education levels, required
- BLS certification will be required within 6 months

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. The above compensation range represents a good faith belief of the compensation range by Bassett Healthcare Network, and its entities and affiliates, at the time of this posting or advertisement.

USD $41.39/Hr.

USD $62.09/Hr.
