Sunnyvale, United States Amazon Full time

Software Development Engineer II, RBS-Tech Are you interested in designing and delivering solutions for complex and high impact business problems? Retail Business Services (RBS) supports Amazon’s Retail business growth worldwide through three core tasks: (a) Selection, where RBS sources, creates, and enriches ASINs to drive GMS growth; (b) Defect Elimination, where RBS resolves inbound supply‑chain defects and develops root‑cause fixes to improve free cash flow; and (c) supports the operational process for worldwide Retail teams where there is an air gap in the tech stack. The RBS tech team develops automation that leverages machine and deep learning to scale execution of these high‑complex tasks that currently require human cognitive skills. Our solutions ensure that information in Amazon’s catalog is complete, correct, and comprehensive enough to give Amazon customers a great shopping experience every time. We are building solutions to move toward retail automation and are using the latest technology, such as large‑language models, to solve business problems. We believe in “Work Hard. Have Fun. Make History” and place a strong focus on sharing learning experiences from the front line with the development teams. We offer a wide range of options for people in the team: master a domain and go deep, juggle three tasks and coordinate with multiple people during high‑heat incidents, enjoy the benefits of process and methodical improvement, or focus on writing code to support the team. We are seeking a Software Development Engineer who can design and develop systems for our businesses. As an SDE, you will have the opportunity to explore how to model things, determine the right abstraction level, and make judgment calls around multiple design trade‑offs that influence a multi‑billion‑dollar business. We want highly talented engineers who are passionate about architecting and developing large‑scale distributed technology solutions while innovating new ideas and guiding our business. You will work on key initiatives that support our rapid evolution and growth, drive best practices, mentor others, and continuously improve engineering and operational excellence. You will use cutting‑edge technology to solve complex problems and see the impact of your work first‑hand. The challenges SDEs solve at Amazon influence millions of customers, sellers, and products worldwide. As an SDE with the RBS team, you will collaborate with peers and applied scientists to build robust engineering platforms that address high‑impact issues and push the boundaries of innovation. Key job responsibilities We are looking for a sharp, experienced software developer with a diverse skill set and background. As an SDE‑2, your work is consistently of high quality. You solve difficult problems using appropriate technologies and best practices, invent, design, and build stable and performant software with your team, and choose the right design approaches. You avoid short‑term workarounds, create flexible software without over‑engineering, make trade‑offs, reuse where possible, and act judiciously when introducing dependencies. You use system resources efficiently (e.g., hardware, database, memory/CPU). You collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and peers on project ideas, participate in code reviews, design discussions, team planning, and ticket/metric reviews, identify problems constructively, and propose solutions. You enhance team software and processes, and train new teammates on how our software is built, operates, is secured, and fits into the bigger picture. Work/Life Balance RBS Tech values work‑life harmony. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives. Mentorship & Career Growth Our team supports new members through a mix of experience levels and tenures, celebrating knowledge sharing and mentorship. Senior members provide one‑on‑one mentoring and constructive code reviews. We host casual coffee chats with Principal and Senior Engineers from RBS tech. You will network, discuss technical challenges, share ideas, and seek advice about work and life topics. We provide training via online learning platforms such as O’Reilly and encourage AWS/ML certifications. Basic Qualifications 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems 3+ years of Video Games Industry experience (supporting title development, release, or Live Ops) Experience programming with at least one software programming language Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. If you have a disability and need a workplace accommodation or adjustment during the application and hiring process, including support for the interview or onboarding process, please visit https://amazon.jobs/content/en/how-we-hire/accommodations for more information.
