Medical Billing Authorizations Specialist

We are looking for an exceptional Medical Billing Authorizations Specialist to join our growing team. The position will be based in Salida, CA right off the freeway, in our newly remodeled offices.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a deep understanding of medical billing processes. Authorization experience is required

Review eligibility for existing commercial patients monthly and advise the clinical team of any changes in patient’s coverage.
Obtain authorization for new patients in a timely manner.
Obtain authorization for additional visits for existing patients as requested from clinical.
Maintain an updated manual with requirements for processing eligibility and authorization for each commercial payor/portal.
Maintain Wellsky software with current notes on progress of authorizations and eligibility.
Crosstrain staff (as directed by your supervisor) to provide support to the authorization department.
Professional, courteous, timely communication is required for all verbal and written contact with everyone you may work with (staff, payors, vendors, patients).
Maintain a positive relationship with all external partners including insurance providers and any other vendors that assist in billing or authorizations.
Maintain a positive and collaborative working environment with all internal teams (clinical, intake, billing).
Any projects or tasks as assigned by Billing Manager or Executive Management.

Qualities:

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, timeliness, and analytical skills.
Accustomed to working with and maintaining restricted or confidential information from many sources.

Requirements:

At least two (2) years’ experience in health care data entry, preferably in hospice care or home health systems.
At least one (1) year of previous health care related authorization experience, preferably in home health care.
Ability to utilize EMR Software (Wellsky is a plus) and Microsoft Office.
Is a high school graduate or equivalent, two (2) years college preferred.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Experience working for multiple entities.
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to work independently.
