Cleveland, United States University Hospitals Full time
Job DescriptionDescription

University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center (UH-SCC)/Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is seeking a full-time Chief Dosimetrist to join our incredible Department of Radiation Oncology. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to oversee the growing dosimetry team operations systemwide, and work with the Department’s leadership team to propel UH-SCC to be a world-class center of excellence. The Chief position is based in Cleveland, Ohio at the Seidman Cancer Center, the only free-standing cancer hospital in Ohio. This is a competitive position with a strong compensation package.

The Chief Dosimetrist is responsible for overseeing, performing, and delegating patient specific medical dosimetry tasks and ensuring adequate dosimetry coverage systemwide. The dosimetry team currently consists of sixteen dosimetrists across the main campus and six network community sites. The Chief Dosimetrist provides supervision, guidance, and credentialing of all dosimetrists on existing and new procedures, and will keep the team informed of departmental policy changes. As dosimetry as a field changes with artificial intelligence, remote dosimetry, and other disruptive innovations, the Chief Dosimetrist will help guide our Department towards the future of how best to integrate these and other innovations into our clinical workflow.

The Chief Dosimetrist is an important leadership position within the Department of Radiation Oncology, and will work directly with the Chair, Clinical Chief of Physics, Radiation Therapist Supervisor, and Department Director on development and implementation of continued process improvement throughout the system. They will also participate in the department’s quality improvement committee. The Chief Dosimetrist will provide, or delegate a representative to assist in training dosimetry students, physician residents, physics residents, and radiotherapy students who rotate through the main campus.  This position allows for some remote work.

Ideal candidates will have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, problem solving mentality, desire for efficiency and safety, and work well in teams. Additionally, they must possess a good understanding of fundamental concepts in patient setup and simulation, contouring, image fusions, treatment planning, and data transfer between the treatment planning system and the OIS.

About Seidman Cancer Center and the Department of Radiation Oncology:

UH is comprised of 23 hospitals, of which cancer services are currently at 15 centers. UH-SCC is consistently ranked as a top cancer center by US News and World Report, is one of only a select number of centers with NCI designation, and even fewer with a proton center. UH-SCC is part of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, which consistently is in the top 10 accruing sites to cooperative group trials in the nation. The Radiation Oncology Department is currently located at 9 centers, and is undergoing an exciting transformation to become international leaders in Radiation Oncology. There has been investment and recruitment of top talent with over 25 new staff and faculty hired in the past 6 months due to this positive and exciting change.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at UH-SCC/CWRU consists of 20 physicians, 20 physicists, 7 physician residents, 3 physics residents, 16 dosimetrists, and 40 therapists spread over nine facilities. System-wide we treat over 3,000 patients per year, and approximately 300 patients per day. Major treatment equipment includes fifteen Linacs (both Varian and Elekta), one Mobetron IORT, three HDR brachytherapy units, three LDR brachytherapy systems, one Gamma Knife and a single-room Mevion Proton Therapy Unit.
