Principal Mechanical Engineer In this role DNA Electronics (DNAe) is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design, development, and manufacturing transition of our diagnostic platform and associated projects. Base pay range $175,000.00/yr - $208,000.00/yr Responsibilities Lead technical development: create, review, and guide requirements, designs, documentation, prototypes, test strategies, and analysis/test reports. Proactively identify risks and offer solutions. Develop planning & reporting: create realistic project plans with a horizon of 6+ months, defining scope, deliverables, strategies, timelines, resources, and budgets. Guide others to plan and manage less complex projects. Manage external partners: recommend and work with external development partners to define scope/deliverables, track progress and budget, and ensure their output meets DNAe’s needs. Technical Skills End‑to‑end development of complex milli/microfluidic consumables for diagnostic systems or similar. Advanced SolidWorks CAD skills. Design for injection moulding with rapid prototyping techniques and supplier selection. Root cause analysis and problem resolution across disciplines. FEA software (preferable Comsol) and hand calculations for design performance. Experience guiding and reviewing junior team members. Non‑Technical Skills Experience within medical device development processes (ISO 13485); able to guide others on good practice, identify gaps, and suggest improvements. Able to discuss technical subjects with non‑technical stakeholders at an appropriate level of detail. Awareness of user, business, regulatory needs associated with sample‑to‑result (preferred). Basic understanding of assay development methodologies towards medical device designs (preferred). Experience overseeing third‑party work and deliverables (preferred). Qualifications Higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or Design Engineering. 10+ years experience, with at least 5 years developing similar fluidics consumable products. Comfortable leading others, reviewing work, thinking on a strategic/system level, questioning briefs, and offering solutions beyond the original ask. Ability to consider business process improvements and to line‑manage/coaching others (preferred). Compensation Competitive base salary range: $175,000 – $208,000 for Carlsbad, California. Additional compensation decisions based on qualifications, location, internal equity, and market data.
