Job Summary The Assistant Editor will ingest and organize incoming material and support the Editor with project setup, organization, and media management. The role ensures a smooth editorial pipeline from offline edit to final archiving, working with dialogue, sound effects, graphics, and visual effects. Location Chicago, IL Salary Rate Range $60K – $70K Hybrid 3 days in office, 2 days remote Responsibilities Track incoming camera footage and ingest into the appropriate folder structure. Transcode and confirm footage meets project guidelines and pipeline specifications. Organize media assets based on the editor’s request. Track down specific asset requests from editors or production team. Conform and export files from offline edits for sound mixer, online editor/colourist, and export final deliverables. Assist the editor with edits based on internal or client feedback. Export or compress media for client review, final delivery, or internal purposes. Create generic versions of deliverables and manage audio splits after project completion. Deliver final product to required specifications. Archive all footage and manage overall file structure on cloud‑based platforms. Catalog media and act as main point of contact for producers requesting assets. Maintain file structure for incoming transcodes from shoots. Own any other duties assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications Preferred 2+ years in an editorial role; agency experience a plus. Proficiencies in Adobe Premiere. Knowledge of After Effects, Resolve, and VFX media and camera raw media. Experience with cloud‑based file management and workflows. Excellent time‑management skills. Take direction well from the editorial and post‑production department. Maintain a positive and professional attitude. Work under pressure and meet deadlines with strong follow‑through abilities. Well‑organized, detail‑oriented, flexible, helpful, multitasker, self‑starter. Solid communication skills and ability to work cohesively as part of a team. Competent in shared network, cloud‑based environments, and structured file systems. Some long hours may be required. A current reel that conveys both technical ability and creative thought.
