Advocate Counselor (Coach), Brooklyn Frontiers High School Counselor / Coach – Brooklyn Frontiers High School Hours: 35 Hours/Week | Non‑Exempt Salary Range: $44,000-$50,000 Position Summary Our high schools serve students who are over‑age, under‑credited, and have a history of truancy. The Counselor / Coach provides attendance outreach, individual and group counseling, and supports the implementation of the GSS/DOE partnership school program. This role promotes students’ educational and leadership goals and supports the school’s mission to prepare students for post‑secondary education, meaningful employment, healthy relationships, and active participation in their communities. Major Duties & Responsibilities Manage a caseload of students, monitoring attendance, academic progress, and providing regular individual counseling. Conduct attendance outreach and family support to help students achieve a 90% attendance rate, including home or work site visits. Plan and facilitate advisory group sessions twice weekly. Support student recruitment and conduct intake assessments and interviews. Provide continuous feedback and resources to students and families to support academic success. Monitor credit accumulation and graduation requirements; counsel students accordingly. Collaborate with DOE/GSS faculty to support student progress and develop individualized educational plans. Provide crisis intervention, conflict mediation, and social‑emotional support. Refer students to external resources such as employment services, emergency shelter, daycare, and other social/educational supports. Maintain accurate documentation in PowerSchool and other systems; support DOE record accuracy. Use data to inform individual and team practices. Participate in and co‑facilitate student and family orientation sessions. Assist students in academic goal‑setting from entry to graduation. Engage families to support student success and address identified needs. Facilitate college and career readiness activities and support post‑graduation planning. Participate in staff meetings, overnight retreats, and professional development; occasional evening and Saturday hours required. Collaborate with faculty to develop student enrichment and leadership activities. Provide job readiness support including resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace skills. Conduct employment preparation workshops in partnership with the Internship Coordinator. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate’s degree in a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Bilingual in Spanish/English or French/English preferred. Experience working with adolescents individually and in groups. Ability to use public transportation and navigate stairs. Commitment to the school’s mission and philosophy. Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development, trauma informed perspective.
