Medical Technologist Senior – Canton Potsdam Hospital Department: Canton Potsdam Laboratory Services Schedule: 7.5 hour shifts, every other weekend rotation Summary As a member of the professional medical team, accurately performs clinical laboratory analyses and examinations by approved department procedures on blood, urine, body fluids and tissues within a published turnaround time using a variety of instruments and methods to assist in physician diagnosis and treatment. Uses complex problem‑solving skills to resolve clinical and instrument problems. Ensures the provision of high‑quality laboratory/diagnostic services to patients and physicians and full compliance with all regulatory standards. May provide weekend/holiday supervisory coverage as needed. Responsibilities Correctly perform testing in an accurate and timely manner. Interpret and correlate clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis and clinical condition to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken. Communicate stat and critical lab results and prolonged instrument malfunctions causing delays in test results to physicians, nursing units and other appropriate medical personnel. Perform QC, routine and advanced maintenance and analyte/instrument troubleshooting activities. Accurately prepare reagents and maintain proper inventory of laboratory section supplies with appropriate cost containment in mind. Maintain knowledge of required computer functions associated with ordering testing, performing testing, resulting testing and calling up various reports to assist in completing testing and workflow management. Coordinate and assist in the training of new and existing employees on new procedures and instrumentation and act as a technical consultant to technologists, technicians, and/or students rotating through the area. Teach in the School of Medical Technology and Lab rotations as called upon to do so. Assist in the performance of specialized and complex diagnostic procedures. Conduct research and development of new or updated technologies and provide written evaluation to supervisor. Additional duties and responsibilities as requested by Manager. Required Qualifications BS in Medical Technology or BS in a related Science (Biology, Chemistry, or the Physical Sciences) and/or equivalent relevant experience as recognized by the New York State Department of Education for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. 4+ years of relevant Medical Technology Laboratory experience. New York State Department of Education License or Limited Permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. If travel is required, must have a valid NYS driver’s license as defined by the RGHS Motor Vehicle and Authorized Drivers Policy. Preferred Qualifications Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred. Previous experience in a Clinical or Pathology Laboratory a benefit. Previous experience in a laboratory supervisory or leadership position. Physical Requirements M – Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
