Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems (ASCS) builds the systems that host and run the world’s largest e‑Commerce products catalog. Within this organization the Product Classification team is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer for designing and implementing solutions to determine the right product identity by classifying them into the catalog. The problem space consists of developing systems capable of identifying what a product is, mining product information to determine how a product across its different functions should be classified for browsing and searching purposes at high precision, and scaling across marketplaces and languages. Key Job Responsibilities You will build distributed systems powered by LLMs and multi‑modal ML models. The GenAI‑based systems are responsible for handling continuous incoming traffic of products entering the catalog, classifying them using an ensemble of ML models and techniques, building applications for analyzing product composition, and mining product signals such as images, text and unstructured data to drive true understanding of product knowledge. As an engineer you will work to build solutions to real‑world problems, partnering closely with scientists working in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate has worked on systems productionizing LLM and multi‑modal ML‑based systems in one or several of the following fields: generative artificial intelligence, prompt engineering, classification systems, clustering, natural language processing, search, personalization, streaming infrastructure, and MLOps. A successful candidate will have an established background in building innovative systems from inception to production, scaling systems with large data sets, developing customer‑facing experiences, and making data‑driven decisions. About the team We are seeking a Software Engineer team member to help us build a suite of services that impact systems across the Amazon catalog. Our customers span all Amazon retail businesses, Search, Personalization, Selling Partner Services, and services that rely on product classification precision. Ultimately our work ensures that customers browsing or searching always find the right products in the right destinations for navigation and discovery on the Amazon retail website. 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience Experience programming with at least one software programming language 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
