Summary The Tractor Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of tractor shop operations, including the preparation of new assets, processing of unmanned, for-sale units, and repairs on seated tractors. This role serves as the primary point of contact for the tractor shop Service Leaders and ensures efficient coordination across all service activities. Key responsibilities include maintaining a safe and productive work environment, managing internal repair processes, and overseeing external repairs and vendor relationships. The Tractor Shop Manager plays a critical role in delivering high-quality experiences for both Drivers and customers through operational excellence and effective leadership. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the industry. Three to five years of supervisory experience required. Strong understanding of the transportation industry with a working knowledge of diesel maintenance and repair principles. Thorough understanding of OSHA and Hazmat regulations, and general shop safety. Strong planning and problem-solving skills; able to identify and resolve problems promptly. Demonstrated expertise of shop operations, data processing, and safe operations. In-depth understanding and knowledge of FMCSA Inspection, Repair, and Maintenance regulations. Experience with the tools of the trade to maintain and service equipment such as maintenance procedures, technical support, and reliability improvement. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision from functional leadership. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trust and rapport across all levels of the organization, along with outside vendors. Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment. Able to gather and analyze large volumes of data and information to assist functional leadership in developing standard operating procedures and workflow instructions. Must demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required. Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal) Willing and able to travel up to 20% of the time, including overnight travel. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Facilitate the planning and execution of repair strategies for all tractor assets located in Saint Cloud. A critical component of this role involves ensuring that each unit is safe, compliant, and operationally ready, delivered at the right time and at the right cost. This includes maintaining accountability for adherence to work order processing protocols and established repair procedures. Collaborate with the East Maintenance Manager to ensure unmanned data is accurate and updated in advance of the weekly prep meeting with Operations and Senior Leadership. Build and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships with key vendors by fostering a shared understanding of expectations and aligning mutual goals as strategic partners. Lead and develop a team of Service Leaders, along with Technicians and Interns, to meet tractor demand at the St. Cloud, MN facility. Partner annually with the Shop Maintenance Manager, Trailer Shop Manager, Inventory Control Manager, and Director of Maintenance to review and validate the accuracy of flat rate preparation and de-preparation costs, ensuring alignment with operational and financial expectations. Collaborate with the Claims Department to address body shop needs for unmanned, manned, and for-sale units. Ensure all ATS tractors meet FMCSA Inspection, Repair, and Maintenance compliance standards in partnership with maintenance teams. Oversee and manage cost performance metrics, including new asset tractor prep flat rate, and St Cloud Tractor Cost Per Unit (CPU). Drive continuous improvement by evaluating and enhancing processes to align with evolving customer expectations and organizational goals. Address and resolve maintenance-related customer concerns while fostering strong relationships through consistent, professional communication. Ensure work output meets company standards and supports high levels of customer satisfaction. Identify shop operational trends and implement changes or improvements to meet goals and maintain uninterrupted service levels. Apply effective problem management practices to identify root causes and prevent recurring issues. Temperature extremes intermittently due to outside weather conditions. Dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, and odors constantly. Situations requiring eye protection and steel-toed boots. Compensation & Benefits • The anticipated base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $110,000 plus position specific, performance-based incentive program. Base salary offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic as compared to others doing substantially similar work.
