Senior Underwriter

Senior Commercial Underwriter (HYBRID) Location: Uniondale, NY PURPOSE Gramercy Risk Management is seeking a Senior level Commercial Underwriter to join our expanding company. The Senior Underwriter role is responsible for reviewing and evaluating renewal accounts in accordance with established underwriting guidelines and will have new business responsibilities. We are looking for a candidate to be full‑time with prior insurance industry experience, construction experience preferred. The position is based in our main office with some remote capability (3 days in office, 2 WFH). We are flexible for candidates who wish to work full remote if they are outside a 30‑mile radius of the headquarters. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of company underwriting guidelines, coverage forms, enhancements, rating plans, and workflow. Determine eligibility of individual accounts based on company underwriting guidelines. Use underwriting information such as inspection reports, claims history, and commercial applications, and supplemental information collected to make appropriate underwriting decisions on individual accounts. Evaluate underwriting information on individual accounts to determine appropriate terms and conditions to be offered. Maintain and develop strong business relationships with appointed brokers. Meet or exceed all company service standards for underwriting and processing commercial lines applications, endorsements, renewal policies, and new business policies. Train assistant underwriters as needed. REQUIREMENTS 6‑10+ years of underwriting experience. Current commercial multi‑line (package) experience; experience in underwriting construction business is preferred. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and time‑management skills. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Adept at learning new computer skills and programs. Knowledge of IMS and/or Net Rate helpful. Exhibits sound judgment and decision making as per company underwriting guidelines & philosophy. Achieved or in process of achieving a professional designation such as CPCU, CIC, ARM is a plus.
