The Position:
The primary responsibility of the Medical Instrument Sterilization Assistant is to decontaminate, clean, assemble, requisition, store and sterilize supplies and instruments according to policy and procedure while using aseptic technique. The Medical Instrument Sterilization Assistant must excel in interpersonal communication skills and multi-tasking skills.They must be reliable, independent, and able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude. They will be involved in the continuous training of new surgery staff members as well as maintaining the sterilization needs of the MSPCA organization sterilization needs.
Some Duties To Include:
- Cleaning soiled supplies and instruments removing waste as well as operating decontamination equipment.
- Sorts and inspects instruments for damage and report repairs as needed to manager.
- Assembles and wraps clean instruments or surgical packs per department protocol.
- Prepares items for sterilization utilizing proper pre sterilization techniques and packaging.
- Able to safely operate steam sterilization autoclave effectively.
- Able to stoop, bend, kneel and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to lift 40lbs from floor level to waist height unassisted, multiple time during scheduled work day, ability to lift >40lbs with assistance.
- Able to reach above and below shoulder level as needed.
- Able to push and pull items as needed, up to 50lbs.
- Able to grasp items with hand(s) as needed, such as for small animal restraint or drawing up/administering medication injections.
WHO WE ARE:
MSPCA-Angell West, a non-profit 24-hour emergency and referral satellite hospital in the west suburbs of Boston, was opened in early 2014 by Angell Animal Medical Center. The hospital is over 20,000 square feet and is located 10 miles west of Boston in Waltham. Whether in Boston or in Waltham, our specialists regularly collaborate and plan treatments tailored to your pet's emergency, surgical, and specialty needs.
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for applicants with at least 1 year of veterinary hospital experience. As this position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, we require applicants to include a cover letter showcasing your writing skills.
