This is a hands-on leadership role focused on growing and supporting a team of engineers to develop secure, scalable microservices and mobile/web solutions for our healthcare platform. The ideal candidate will bring deep engineering expertise, strong people management skills, and a passion for driving technical execution in a mission-driven startup environment. This position reports to the VP of Engineering and offers significant opportunity to influence product strategy and engineering excellence.Work SettingThis is a full-time hybrid position based in West Virginia, with onsite presence as per the schedule proposed by the manager. Candidates should expect regular in-person collaboration, and occasional travel (up to 15%) may be required across West Virginia, California, and New York for customer site visits, team offsites, or relevant industry events.ResponsibilitiesLead a team of 5–8 software engineers across backend and mobile app developmentProvide mentorship, technical direction, and career support for engineers at all levelsDefine engineering roadmaps and architectural strategy in partnership with the VP of EngineeringOversee development of platform microservices and Flutter-based mobile applicationsManage engineering delivery timelines, release planning, and sprint executionEnsure all solutions are scalable, secure, and compliant with HIPAA and HITECHDrive integration projects with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Allscripts)Collaborate with product, clinical, and regulatory teams to deliver cross-functional outcomesCultivate an inclusive, high-performing team culture rooted in psychological safety and transparencyRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field2+ years of engineering management experience leading remote or hybrid teams5+ years of hands-on software development experience with clear progression into technical leadership rolesExperience in the U.S. healthcare technology sector, including EHR system integrations and regulatory complianceExpertise in microservices architecture, distributed systems, and cloud-native technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS)Familiarity with mobile development using Flutter and an understanding of secure software development practicesPreferred QualificationsExperience building and maintaining HIPAA compliant systems and solutionsExperience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflowsBackground in implementing audit logging and data encryption protocolsFluency in agile delivery methods and cross-functional stakeholder managementAbility to coach and scale high-performing engineering teamsStrong emotional intelligence and systems thinking for team leadership and architectureExperience working with connected health devices or Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) systemsCompensationTotal compensation for this role is expected to fall within the range of $130,000 to $180,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and alignment with the responsibilities outlined.
