Overview The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is the largest organization in the United States dedicated to preventing and addressing homelessness. The agency manages hundreds of facilities and operates with a large team and a multi-billion-dollar budget to meet the diverse needs of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness. DHS Fleet Administration supports prompt and safe transport of Family and Adult Services clientele across multiple shifts and locations, including transport for disabled clients. The Fleet also handles logistics and materials for the agency, moving clients from shelters to permanent housing, HERO transfers, viewing apartments, signing leases, and transportation from Intake Centers. Responsibilities Supervise automotive operations of a departmental garage or automotive service facility. Manage a team of Motor Vehicle Supervisors, their time and leave, and distribute assignments accordingly. Supervise a team of City Laborers, their time and leave, and distribute assignments accordingly. Dispatch personnel, motor vehicles and equipment to fulfill transportation requests and assignments. Schedule subordinate personnel to perform servicing, minor repairs, and storage of automotive vehicles. Inspect garage activities and facilities to ensure compliance with established standards and practices. Investigate complaints on automotive service and operations (M-5 and Holman). Receive reports on the condition of motor vehicles and equipment repaired or needing repairs. Direct the performance of minor repairs and refer major repairs to appropriate sections (M-5 and Holman). Prepare and enforce routines of periodic oiling, lubrication, and washing of vehicles, tire servicing, and the dispensing of gasoline as authorized for vehicular uses. Initiate requisitions for needed supplies and automotive servicing equipment. Hours Hours/Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30pm Minimum Qualifications Qualification Requirements License Requirements: a valid chauffeur's license issued by the New York State Bureau of Motor Vehicles; AND Seven (7) years of satisfactory experience in the operation or servicing of motor vehicles and/or motor driven equipment, including two (2) years of satisfactory experience in responsible charge of a motor vehicle or delivery service operation or a large phase thereof; or Satisfactory completion of an approved 8th year of elementary school course of a satisfactory equivalent education, and five (5) years of satisfactory experience in the operation or servicing of motor vehicles and/or motor driven equipment, including two (2) years of satisfactory experience in responsible charge of a motor vehicle or delivery service operation or a large phase thereof; or High school graduation, and three (3) years of satisfactory service in the operation or servicing of motor vehicles and/or motor driven equipment, including two (2) years of satisfactory experience in responsible charge of a motor vehicle or delivery service operation or a large phase thereof; or A satisfactory equivalent. 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
