We care for you.Position OverviewWe are seeking a compassionate and skilled Board Certified or Residency Trained Oncologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high-quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with our clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will work closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager.Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center - Thousand Oaks (VSEC) is a 24-hour specialty and emergency referral hospital located in Thousand Oaks, CA. Apply todayKey ResponsibilitiesComprehensive patient exams and medical work-upsClient communication and educationMaintaining accurate medical recordsPharmacy duties such as prescribing medications to patients and following controlled substance protocolsPromote teamwork and staff efficiencyWork with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectationsEvaluate and monitor protocols for the daily running of the hospital from intake to dischargeMonitor cases in the hospital and attend daily rounds when possible to ensure the highest standards are upheldParticipate in practice management updates and training at all levelsPerforms other duties as assigned by ManagementQualifications (Required)Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university1-year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, ER (university or large referral practice)Completed a 3-year AVMA approved residency programCurrent State Veterinary LicenseDEA registration must be obtained and maintainedStrong diagnostic and clinical skillsAbility to work well in a team-oriented environmentExceptional interpersonal and communication skillsCommitment to providing compassionate and high-quality veterinary careExcellent communication skills with all members of the Medical and Hospital staffClient communication skills to elicit information, establish rapport, and explain procedures to pet ownersDisplay confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, or painPhysical ability to perform tasks with occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling and to lift up to 50 poundsPreferred Skills (Nice to Have)Board Certification2-5 years of experience post-residencyClinical Knowledge and Skills: cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological examinations and treatmentsProblem-Solving: develop solutions for high-quality hospital managementCommunication Skills: explain diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and collaborate with staffProfessionalism: work within a high-quality veterinary team and receive constructive feedbackBusiness Acumen: understand hospital management and financesEthics: knowledge of ethical principles guiding patient careCommitment to Continuing Education: ongoing learning and sharing knowledgeWhat We OfferMedical, dental, and vision insurancePaid Parental Leave (birth, adoption, foster)401(k) with discretionary contributionTeam Member Pet DiscountsEmotional wellbeing support — including Calm app access and 24/7 EAPCE stipends and career development resourcesGrant Circle — a relief fund for team members facing personal hardshipLocal hospital culture backed by national resourcesPay Range$200,000 — $300,000 USDPetVet Care Centers is committed to a Culture of Care — for pets, for the people who love them, and for the team members who make it all possible.
