Low Voltage Lead Technician Reports to: Lead Communications Technician Job Summary The Communications Technician II must perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Fiber Network Technician will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload while adhering to company safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Install floor or wall outlet (terminate CAT3 & CAT5 jacks, mount face plates, surface mount boxes correctly, adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards). Build closets (mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g., terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels). Perform testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable; use a tone set. Identify active voice or data circuits. Assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project. Fully complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required). Adhere to and participate in all company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations. Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalency. Minimum 2 years experience in telecommunications or related technical field. Supervision experience of others. Proficiency with listed tools (screwdrivers, drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, tone set, 6/8 position combo crimp tool). Ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications, reporting and quality requirements. Knowledge of universal communications color codes. Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Meet company minimum driving standards. Physical and Mental Requirements Self‑motivated, positive approach and professional demeanor. Act as company liaison for interface with customer representative(s). Work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces. Lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds. See and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear audible signals such as dial tones. Travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed. Regular attendance is mandatory. Travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed. Compensation Minimum USD $23,000 / yr. Maximum USD $32,000 / yr.
