Outpatient Physical Therapist - Sign On Bonus Eligible Join to apply for the Outpatient Physical Therapist - Sign On Bonus Eligible role at Tufts Medicine Job Profile Summary This role focuses on assessing the needs of patients who have physical, mental, or emotional disabilities and delivering therapy services to improve their developmental, physical or cognitive impairment. It involves providing services to restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. The therapist examines medical history, evaluates physical abilities, determines potential response to therapy, and develops treatment plans. It is a professional individual‑contributor role that may direct other lower‑level professionals or manage processes and programs, with independent work under general supervision. Job Overview The position evaluates, develops, and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of physical therapy. The therapist will treat all age groups using therapeutic exercises, activities, modalities, and skills, and will document all care in the medical record. The staff member serves as a liaison with other disciplines for problem‑solving and may provide coverage on a rotating basis for weekends and holidays as needed. Job Description Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Graduation from an approved school of Physical Therapy Physical Therapy (PT) License. Licensure in NH may be required depending on assigned territory and operational need One (1) year of clinical experience Preferred Qualifications Advanced Degree (Master's or Doctorate) Two (2) years of clinical experience Duties and Responsibilities Assesses, re‑assesses, and treats a variety of diagnoses with professional competency and efficiency to ensure quality patient care; evaluates and treats pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general population patients. Assesses pain, develops appropriate treatment plans to assist patients in attaining maximum functional outcomes. Interacts professionally with patients/families, involves them in plan of care, and formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning, cultural, and psychosocial needs. Sets realistic short and long‑term goals related to patients’ physical therapy needs within musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary systems. Communicates clearly and appropriately to patients, families, physicians, staff, and other stakeholders. Supervises, educates, and evaluates students. Maintains timely documentation in the medical record to promote communication and ensure proper reimbursement. Ensures departmental operations are efficient, cost‑effective, and adhere to billing guidelines and insurance limitations. Prepares for JCAHO surveys and participates in CQI activities; performs related duties as needed for appropriate patient care. Attends intra‑departmental rounds, team meetings, case conferences, staff meetings, professional meetings, courses, and conferences to continue education. Meets organization’s attendance and punctuality requirements to ensure coverage and quality service. Follows established precautions and procedures for a safe work environment. Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary health‑care team, patients, and families to promote patient safety and independence in discharge planning. Physical Requirements Prolonged standing, walking, and transferring patients. Regularly lifts and/or moves 25 pounds; occasionally lifts or moves up to 100 pounds. Requires manual dexterity for fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard and test and treatment techniques. Visual acuity sufficient for frequent use of computer screen and reports. Effective communication via phone, email, and in person. Skills & Abilities Interpersonal skills: communication, teamwork, and ability to work solo or in groups. Independent work, self‑motivation, organization, functioning in busy situations. Responsibility and reliability. Flexibility and adaptability to change. Maturity to operate in a multidisciplinary setting. Ability to work with a wide variety of patients with acute and long‑term disability. Read, write, and communicate in English. Knowledge of patient assessment across age populations to provide appropriate care. Ability to assess injury and functional status visually and audibly. Knowledge of modalities, therapeutic exercise, and other treatment skills. Observation and evaluation of treatment effect with plan adjustment.
