Indianapolis, United States Indiana University Health Full time

Indiana University Health is announcing an extraordinary opportunity for a visionary leader at the Indiana University School of Medicine Riley Children's Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition division to further national and international prominence as a clinical, educational, and research center of excellence. The Department of Pediatrics at Riley is a 400-member faculty that is consistently within the top 10 pediatric departments in NIH funded research and 19 Fellowship programs.  Faculty are a collaborative, cohesive group with 3 important missions: clinical care, research, and medical education.

The division has a well-established ACGME accredited fellowship program with 6 fellows annually and an extremely busy clinical service with a referral base of ~5 million at 5 sites statewide with over 22,000 outpatient visits, 3,000 procedures, and ~900 hospital admissions annually. Multi-specialty clinics include eosinophilic esophagitis, inflammatory bowel disease, motility, liver/liver transplant, intestinal rehabilitation, gut/brain interaction disorders, celiac disease, and aerodigestive disorders, among others.

Faculty would join a vibrant research community, with all faculty in the division conducting scholarly work in their area of expertise.  The group participates in ImproveCareNow and other inflammatory bowel disease networks, several NIH-funded pediatric liver disease research networks, short-gut registries, and more. One tenure track faculty oversees NIH funded projects in computerized clinical decision support in pediatric gastroenterology, automated depression and anxiety screening in pediatrics, and patient engagement research.  The Riley campus includes state-of-the-art laboratories, a comprehensive clinical research center, and a well-functioning biobank to support Department research. Our nationally recognized Division of Children’s Health Services Research and the Indiana Clinical Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) are available for collaboration and as a resource. The Department also has robust research relationships with the Regenstrief Institute in Health Informatics, Purdue Biomedical Engineering and Cooke Biomedical in pediatric biodevices, and the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute in developing and testing orphan drug therapeutics.

The Division Chief will be responsible for:

  • Advancing the clinical, educational, and research efforts and capabilities of the Division, the Department of Pediatrics, and the IU School of Medicine
  • Promoting the academic careers of faculty and fellows
  • Directing the continued delivery of state-of-the-art consultation and care to the children and youth of Indiana and the Midwest region
  • Championing an innovative, team-based approach to clinical care and consultation through developing systems and value-based care
  • Providing leadership to support ongoing collaboration and growth of the Division
  • Strengthening and supporting further development of the Division
  • Pioneering new research in the field through their own efforts or alternatively faculty in the Division

Basic Qualifications:

  • MD, DO or MD-PhD degrees; eligible for licensure in Indiana
  • Board Certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in clinical, educational, or research excellence in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition
  • Progressive leadership experience in academic medicine
  • Expertise in basic, clinical, translational, or implementation science research
