BCS serves more than 20,000 people in 42+ programs through the work of approximately 400 staff and 900 volunteers.Position OverviewThe Suicide Prevention Programs serve Hispanic/Latino, Black/African American, Asian American/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native and LGBTQI+ New York Youth and Young Adults ages 18-24. The Team Leader ensures an effective therapeutic milieu is established and ingrained in all aspects of the Suicide Prevention Program through best practices in their work with youth and families. The primary role is to establish healthy relationships with participants, provide guidance, modeling, and opportunities for youth as well as independent living and parenting skills. The Family Counselor will form positive, supportive relationships with children and adults in caring, family and community-based environments, assist with coordination of services and communication of community-based resources, support the youth Peer Advocate (problem resolution and customer service; documentation), attend Child and Family Teams, and perform other duties as assigned (which may include mentoring children, assisting with living skills, providing respite for families, and other supportive services).ResponsibilitiesCoordinate services and communicate community-based resources for youth and familiesProvide support to the youth Peer Advocate, including problem resolution and documentationAttend Child and Family TeamsMentor children and assist with living skills; provide respite for families; deliver other supportive services as assignedEngage with young adults in crisis, provide guidance and modeling of coping and independence skillsMaintain professional conduct and positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholdersQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Behavioral Health related field or Human ServicesExperience working with young adults and conducting at-risk assessmentsAbility to engage with others easily, coordinate with care coordinators and follow up in a timely mannerCommunity engagement and outreachProvides academic and vocational supportConduct risk assessments and wellness activitiesAbility to work a flexible schedule including evenings and/or weekend hoursDetail oriented with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrated ability to remain calm in crisis situations, work independently and cooperatively, recognize personal limitations, and relate positively and with empathy to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, gender or sexual orientationMaintain professional conduct consistent with ethical professional practice and agency policiesMaintain professional demeanor and positive working relationships with internal/external teamsOMH Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Check is requiredEqual Opportunity Employer: BCS is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
