As an on-call relief veterinarian, you’ll step in during staff absences, high-volume days, or emergent needs—making a tangible difference when it matters most.Our facility includes:State-of-the-art surgical and diagnostic equipment, including dental and radiology toolsFully equipped treatment and exam rooms, wet tables, and a dedicated surgical suiteRobust pharmacy and computerized medical recordsA highly trained, compassionate veterinary technician teamAn organized, efficient shelter committed to best practices in animal careDuties and ResponsibilitiesYour ImpactIn this flexible relief role, your contributions may include:Conducting medical evaluations and triage for new arrivals and in-shelter animalsProviding urgent care and stabilizing emergency casesPerforming surgical and dental procedures as neededCollaborating on treatment plans with staff veterinarians and leadershipEnsuring adherence to shelter medicine protocols and public health standardsSupporting cruelty or neglect investigations through medical documentationEducation, Experience, LicensingQualifications: To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)or equivalent from an accredited veterinary institution recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)Active Florida Veterinarian License in good standing at the time of hireUSDA Category I license, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employmentAbility to obtain a Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licenseValid driver’s license with an acceptable driving recordSupplemental InformationStatus:On-call, relief-based schedulingHours:As needed, typically Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; may include occasional after-hours availability for emergency consultationLocation:Lee County Domestic Animal Services, Fort Myers, FLEMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES:All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed.
