What You’ll Do The ARL is one of the research teams of SAIT (Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology), which is Samsung’s R&D hub, established as the incubator for cutting‑edge technologies. SAIT’s mission covers various research areas: AI applications/algorithms research, neuromorphic processor, domain‑specific accelerators to new materials, quantum computing, and supercomputer systems. ARL is committed to shaping the future of CPU processors and SoC architecture for the most demanding applications of the future like AI and HPC. We are building the foundation of processors and the related platform which are applied to various business targets of Samsung in the future. We are seeking a highly skilled Staff CPU Performance Modeling Engineer to join our CPU architecture and performance analysis team. In this role, you will develop, refine, and analyze architectural and microarchitectural performance models for next‑generation processors, collaborate closely with architecture, RTL design, and verification teams to guide performance‑driven design decisions and validate performance against specifications. Location: Daily onsite presence at our San Jose office/headquarters in alignment with our Flexible Work policy. Responsibilities Develop and maintain detailed performance models (e.g., C++/SystemC/TLM) for CPU and subsystem architectures. Analyze microarchitectural bottlenecks, explore design trade‑offs, and provide quantitative feedback to architecture and design teams. Collaborate with RTL design and verification teams to ensure performance models align with functional and cycle‑accurate simulations. Define and execute performance verification plans; correlate model results with RTL and silicon data. Work with software, compiler, and workload teams to understand performance characteristics of target applications. Generate detailed performance reports and recommendations to drive architectural and microarchitectural optimizations. Contribute to the development of modeling methodologies, automation frameworks, and performance validation flows. Support post‑silicon performance validation, including workload analysis and root‑cause performance deviations. What You Bring Bachelors in Electrical/Computer Engineering with 10+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters in Electrical/Computer Engineering with 8+ years or PhD with 5+ years preferred. 7+ years of experience in CPU or SoC architecture, performance modeling, or microarchitecture design. Strong programming skills in C++, SystemC, Python, or equivalent modeling languages. Solid understanding of CPU pipelines, memory hierarchy, out‑of‑order execution, branch prediction, and cache coherence. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with ability to interpret and present complex performance data. Familiarity with industry‑standard CPU benchmarks and workloads (e.g., SPEC, Geekbench, MLPerf). Knowledge of power‑performance trade‑offs, performance counters, and instrumentation techniques. Preferred: Hands‑on experience with performance verification, including correlation with RTL simulation or silicon data. Preferred: Experience with functional verification environments (UVM, simulation‑based, or formal).nPreferred: Exposure to post‑silicon bring‑up, performance counter analysis, and workload characterization. Preferred: Excellent collaboration and communication skills across cross‑functional engineering teams. You are inclusive, adapting your style to the situation and diverse global norms of our people.
